Just as importantly however, we instill in our students the confidence to put these skills into practice. We promote a positive attitude of blindness from the National Federation of the Blind. We work from the premise that blindness doesn’t have to be a tragedy. A majority of our staff are blind allowing them to demonstrate competency and efficiency in the same skills that our students are learning. This enables our instructors to share strategies and techniques for living as independent blind individuals. We offer training for adults, youth, seniors, and nonnative English speaking individuals. Students come from across the country and world. Our graduates are employed in nearly every vocation such as chemists, farmers, teachers, mechanics, etc. We want you to be in control of your life rather than allowing blindness to control it.

As soon as I am permitted, I will be adding Kurzweil and OpenBook reading software to my teaching. I have taught people from age 5 to 75 with both vision and learning disabilities. My secret to teaching is that there is no 1 method that fits all. In order for a student to learn, they must have some skin in the game and want to achieve. In order for a teacher to teach, they must be willing to teach outside the box, and find the method that works best for the student. When looking for a vendor, ask what sets them apart from other vendors.
