MMS Batch (2013-2015) Induction on 1st August 2013

The 12th batch of MMS at GNIMS was inaugurated on Thursday, 01st August, 2013. The

inaugural addressal was by Dr. Ajit Singh - Director General. In his enlightening words he

through innovation in the upgradation of a management institute. The students were next

addressed by Mr. Kapil Bhopatkar - Faculty-In-Charge Finance, he gave an energetic talk on

what should the students expect out of the institute and what the institute expects out of the

students. He also guided them as to what should be their ideal approach during their two years

of management studies. The students were introduced to the rules, regulations and systems of

the GNIMS library by Ms. Kuljeet G. Kahlon through a presentation. This was followed by the

addressal of Ms. Gurjeet Multani – Head CDC who emphasized the need of continuous

updation and skill development beyond the classroom for a fruitful placement.

1st MDP on Blue Ocean Strategy

GNIMS added a feather in its cap when its MDP committee organized 1st MDP on Blue Ocean

Strategy on 31st August and 1st September 2013. Mr Deepak Chhibba - Senior Advisor, Mahindra

Institute of Quality, M&M Ltd. was the Chief Guest of the event.

The program received a positive response from various companies and educational institutes.

Representatives from Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank, Sethvala foods, K J Somaiya

Institute of Management Studies, Bhartiya Vidyapeeth, Guru Nanak Vidyak Society were

amongst the others who participated in the program.

All the facilitators of the program were trained at IIM kozikode on the subject. They stressed

on the need to create a strategy canvas to focus on the big picture and while formulating an

organization’s Blue Ocean Strategy.

During the program, Director General of GNIMS, Dr. Ajit Singh reiterated the point that

“Strategic planning should be more about collective wisdom building than top-down or

bottom-up approach.” He concluded that, “Successful Strategies are a result of team

initiative,”.

Workshop on “Stress Management” at GNIMS

Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies witnessed a workshop on “Stress Management”

on 17th August 2013 organized by Ms. Suchita Shetty with a team from Diya Mumbai from

02:30 p.m to 05:30 p.m. This workshop was conducted based on students need to manage

stress.The Second Year MMS & PGDM specializing in Human Resource have an elective paper

“Stress Management”. This workshop was exactly what these students were looking out for a

live depiction of how we go about handling “Stress”.

DIYA conducts Pragya Yoga, Omkar Meditation, Pranayama Techniques, Interactive

discussions, Lifestyle sensitization & Relaxation techniques in its basic module for stress

management. Its mission is to help individuals get rid of stress and find inner peace. Unless

individuals are stressfree society by large cannot be free. DIYA promotes these same teachings

at various schools, colleges, corporate, Housing societies through Prgya Yoga and meditation

workshops.

The resource persons for this workshop were Diya Jateen Dave (Business Development Manager

–Larsen & Toubro Industrial Automation) and Diya Dr.Somdutt Tiwari (Professional Yog

Trainer).The team kickstarted the session with an interesting ‘Ice Breaker’ which the students

thoroughly enjoyed. Thereafter he mentioned the asanas and the practical benefits derived

from them. Body stretches & Pragya Yoga was demonstrated to students by DIYA Dr.Somdutt

Tiwari. He explained how setting this techniques as a part of daily routine enhances flexibility,

tones the muscles, releases tension and improves mood.

An insight in today’s life with regards to Stress was presented with alarming statistics which was

an eye opener for the students. This was followed by the Pranayam (breathing exercises) which

was conducted for all the participants and students gradually could feel the difference. The

session concluded with the Shavasana.

A Special mention: All Second Year MMS & PGDM HR Students supported and worked hard to

put up this event. The Non-Teaching staff also supported this event that made this event a

grand success

Student Feedback: All the participants appreciated the session. It was an innovative method of

teaching. Learning’s from the session were not only present oriented but also will also help in

individual development in future. The speakers were extremely humble and could deliver the

content in a way which was understood and could connect to all the participants. The

participants feel that such sessions should be conducted on regular basis.

Resource at GNIMS says : The session was a good, calming study break.I pledge to practise it

daily I have a very active and anxious mind and it helps to connect my mind, body and

soul.”Many participants echoed her experience.

GNIMS Student Felicitated at “BMS Academic Excellence Awards 2013”. BMS.co.in along

with IBS Mumbai had hosted the “BMS Academic Excellence Awards 2013” for all the 100

Colleges TYBMS Toppers on 10th August 2013 at IBS Business School, Powai at 10.30am. The

Theme for “BMS Academic Excellence Award” was “Redefining Management Education”.

This event was conducted to appreciate good work & contribution to the BMS fraternity.

They had also created BMS CDs which featured the soft copies of 200 marks project of all

the 100 toppers along with their resumes and photos. Our student Ms. Malini.S.K (MMS First

Year Div: A) was felicitated for being the TYBS topper at college scoring 82%. The Award

consisted of a Trophy and a Certificate. GNIMS family congratulates Malini!!! And wish many

more to come…

1. Psychometric and Aptitude Test and Analysis – (10th August 2013 and 14th August 2013),

Workshop on Market-linked Skill Development – ( Part 1 - 16th August 2013 & 17th

August 2013 & Part 2 - 31st August 2013), were conducted by Liberation Coaches Pvt.

Ltd. for the 2nd year students. (Batch 2012-2014).

Financial Planning and Wealth Management was conducted by ICICI Securities Ltd., for

1st year Finance Students (Batch 2013-2015) and 2nd Finance Students. (Batch 2012-2014)

on 24th August 2013.

3. Training Sessions on Goal Setting - Career Planning and Job Market and Personality Development and Grooming were conducted by Ms. Mayura Puntambekar for 1st year students. (Batch 2013-2015).

4. Training Sessions on Introduction, Emotional Intelligence and Basics of Communication conducted by Mr. Gaurav Khandelwal for 1st year PGDM Students. (Batch 2013-2015).
