Sept. 14 Fri Depart New York JFK – Fly Thessaloniki SKG

Sept 15 Sat ARRIVE THESSALONIKI AIRPORT (SKG) Our Greece guide will meet you after customs and baggage claim with an “BAS-TUTKU TOURS” sign. Brief city tour visiting the city walls, White Tower, and statue of Alexander the Great on way to your hotel in Thessaloniki. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Thessaloniki. (D)

Sept. 16 Sun THESSALONICA. Paul established the church here on his second journey (Acts 17:1-9) and later wrote two letters to the Thessalonians. We will visit the agora mentioned in Acts and the nearby Church of St. Demetrius, patron saint of the city. Later we will visit the outstanding Museum of Archaeology and the Byzantine Museum. We will conclude with a walking tour of the Arch of Galerius and Rotunda. Overnight Thessaloniki

Sept. 17 Mon NEAPOLIS, PHILIPPI, AMPHIPOLIS. We will drive to the port of Neapolis where Paul landed in Europe on his second journey walking into the city on the ancient road, the Via Egnatia (Acts 16:11). Later we will visit the Roman colony of Philippi (Acts 16:12–40). Paul wrote a letter to its church while in prison. We later stop in Amphipolis (Acts 17:1) to see the famous lion. Dinner and overnight at the hotel in Thessaloniki. (B,D)

Sept. 18 Tue BEREA – ACTIUM, NICOPOLIS and Museum - Preveza. Our first stop is in Berea where Paul preached in the synagogue (Acts 17:10-4). We then drive on the new Via Egnatia to Greece’s west coast at Actium. Here Octavian defeated Antony in the famous battle in 31 BC. We visit Nicopolis and its archaeology museum where Paul spent the winter (Titus 3:12) (B,D)

Sept. 19 Wed Preveza – DELPHI: We drive to Delphi to visit the site of the famous Apollo oracle and its museum. Dinner and overnight in Delphi. (B,D)

Sept. 20 Thu DELPHI – ATHENS. Walking tour of Athens with visit to the acropolis to see the Parthenon; then climb the Aeropagus/Mars Hill where Paul preached (Acts 17:16-34). We then descend to the Greek agora with its Stoa Museum and the Roman agora. After lunch there is free time for shopping in the Plaka district or to visit the Acropolis Museum. Athens for overnight. Sept. 21 Fri CORINTH. Drive to Corinth visited by Paul on his second (Acts 18:1-17) and third journeys (Acts 20:2) and to whom he wrote two letters. We first stop at the canal, then visit the archaeological site and museum. We then drive up to the Acro-Corinth to get an overview of the area. Our final stop is at the eastern harbor of Cenchrae where Paul cut his hair because of a vow (Acts 18:18) and Phoebe served as deacon (Romans 16:1-2). Dinner and overnight in Athens. (B,D)

Sept. 22 Sat Transfer to Athens airport for 08:00/10:00 AM flight to Rome. Drive to Naples.

Sept. 23 Sun NAPLES/POMPEII. Our day begins with a visit to the evocative city of Pompeii, frozen in time when Mt. Vesuvius erupted in August of 79 AD, burying the city under several meters of ash and rock. Today modern visitors have the extraordinarily unique opportunity to immerse themselves in 1st-century Roman city. The most precious and important objects from the excavations at Pompeii are located in the Naples Archaeological Museum, which we will visit in the afternoon. Drive to Rome for dinner and overnight. Sept. 24 Mon ROME. This morning begins with a visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel, followed by an exploration of the atmospheric St. Peter’s Basilica. After lunch, we will see the Pantheon, one of the most famous architectural monuments in the world and an astonishing feat of 2nd-centuy engineering. Following the Pantheon, there will be an optional, relaxed walking tour of Rome’s famous Centro Storico, which includes sites such as Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. Sept. 25 Tue ROME. If the city of Rome was the heart of the Empire, then the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and Colosseum were the heart of the city. The first part of our day will be spent at these legendary sites, which include the Mamertine prison in which Peter and Paul are believed to have been imprisoned. This afternoon we will explore Rome’s subterranean world as we descend into one of Rome’s ancient Christian catacombs. (B,D)

Sept. 26 Wed ROME. Today we begin with the church of St. Paul at the Three Fountains, where, according to tradition, Paul was martyred, followed by a visit to St. Paul’s Outside the Walls, where he is believed to have been interred. The afternoon is free for some final shopping or exploring before return to the U.S. the next day, though there will be an optional tour of additional churches in Rome for those who are interested.
