General Pageant Information
PRELIMINARY COMPETITION
Contestants may arrive at The Booksellers at Austin Landing at 5:30pm on Thursday, November 10th.
Upon arriving, see Cindi Lorenz, pageant director, to receive contestant numbers and pageant shirts.
Shirts must not be altered until after the pageant. Restrooms will be available to change and touch-up hair.
Please make sure all forms have been filled out prior to registration. Photogenic entries will be collected at
registration on 11/10.
Interviews will begin promptly at 6:00pm and proceed from the Princess division through the Teen division.
Interviews will take place in the café area of The Booksellers. We ask contestants and parents to remain in
the designated waiting area. Contestants should wear dark denim and their pageant shirt. There are no
rules regarding shoes or accessories (earrings, necklaces, nail polish, etc.).
Commercials promoting the Christmas at Austin Landing events will be judged prior to the preliminary
competition. Submit these to the pageant director at [email protected] no later than Tuesday,
11/1.
HAIR STYLISTS
Hair stylists are available on Saturday only for $25. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity,
please email Cindi at [email protected] no later than Friday, Nov. 4th. Please include whether the
contestant has short or long hair. Hair styles should be decided before competition. Stylist appointments
will be scheduled in order of appearance
Contestants choosing to use a stylist should arrive with hair already rolled. Contestants should wear a but-
ton-down blouse while having their hair done to avoid the need for retouch.
When choosing a hair style, keep in mind that there will not be time between wardrobe changes to ac-
commodate hair transformations. A touch-up is all that time will allow.
Contestants may bring their own mirror if needed.
SATURDAY ARRIVAL INFORMATION
The dressing room at The Booksellers will be open at 2:00pm. Upon arriving, see the pageant director to
receive your contestant badge and any last minute instructions.
The 1st competition on-stage will be Introduction. The contestants will compete in their pageant shirt and
jeans. Following the Intro, they will change into the creative wear outfit and model on stage. Jackets and
coats will be allowed if the weather is chilly.
The contestants will exit the stage and return to the dressing room while the judges scores are tallied.
Once the scores have been delivered to the emcee, the ladies will be called back on stage for crowning.

General Pageant Information
ORDER OF PAGEANT
Contestants will be wearing their pageant shirt and jeans to give their personal introduction. They will be
introduced on stage in the following order: Princess, Little Miss, Pre-Teen, Jr. Teen, and Teen.
Immediately afterwards, they will return to the dressing room and change for creative wear modeling.
Creative Wear will compete first, in the following order: Princess, Little Miss, Pre-Teen, Jr. Teen, and
Teen.
After creative wear, contestants will wait in the dressing room for the judges scores to be tallied. They
will then return to the stage, one age division at a time.
Special awards will be awarded for Photogenic and Community Service. For Photogenic, there is a
separate entry fee of $25 per photo (not to exceed 4 photos). This category is optional and will
not be part of the official pageant score. There will be a most photogenic and outstanding
community service winner chosen in the (4-10) and the (11-19) age ranges.
Crowning will be awarded in the following order: Princess, Little Miss, Pre-Teen, Jr. Teen, and Teen.
A diagram of the stage and where competitors will walk will be provided closer to the pageant.
AFTER-PAGEANT REQUIREMENTS
After crowning, contestants should remain at the ‘Winter Market’ for photos with Santa and participate in
the tree lighting ceremony. Following pictures, contestants are encouraged to change back into their
pageant shirts and proudly wear their crowns and banners around the market.
Miss Miami Valley Queens will be invited to make an appearances at the ‘Christmas in Springboro’
parade, distribute toys in December with police officers in the Dayton area, and participate in a variety of
other community events throughout their year reign. Also, the 2017 Miss Miami Valley Queens must be
available to crown their successors at next year’s pageant.
GENERAL RULES
The Miss Miami Valley pageant is a Natural Beauty Pageant. — no fake tans, false hair, etc. Clear lip
gloss is acceptable for all age groups, and light mascara is also acceptable for the Pre-Teen division.
Jr. Teen and Teen contestants are allowed to wear make-up, but it must be age appropriate. Judges will
may deduct points for excessive make-up in any age division.
Since the weather may be unpredictable, please plan accordingly for the creative wear category. We
chose not to include formal wear as a pageant event for this reason.
There are no rules or guidelines regarding shoes or nail polish.
Coaching from the audience is not permitted.
Feel free to take pictures or videos throughout the competition.
ENTRY FEE: The official pageant entry fee is $95.00. Cash and check accepted. Please make checks
payable to Veris Marketing. There is a separate fee for the Photogenic (optional) competition. The entry fee is
$25 per photo entered (up to 4). We will have one winner in the 4-10 age group and one winner in the 11-19
age group. Winners will receive a trophy, banner, and special recognition. Photos are to be submitted at pageant
registration on 11/10 and should be no smaller than a 5x7.
PRELIMINARY COMPETITION: Interviews will be held Thursday, Nov. 10th at The Booksellers at
Austin Landing. Please arrive at 5:30 p.m. to complete registration and receive your pageant shirt. Contestants
must wear dark denim pants (no holes) and their competition shirts for interview competition. Accessories are op-
tional and shirts must not be altered any part of the competition. Contestants will spend three minutes with each of
the judges. Interviews will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Afterwards, contestants will have an opportunity to
decorate a single layer, 8” cake from elé Cake Co. following the interviews. Photographs can be taken during this
event — please sign the media release form attached to this packet.
COMMUNITY SERVICE: Miss Miami Valley has a partnership with Miami Valley Crimestoppers. Our
community service project will be to collect NEW toys that will be to distributed by our Queens to area children
along with local police officers. The young lady who goes above and beyond collecting her donations (either in
the manner in which she collected the toys or the quantity collected) will receive a trophy and special recognition
by joining the Miss Miami Valley Queens and police officers as they pass out the gifts to local children in need.
The toys must be NEW and will be turned in at pageant registration on 11/10.
INTRODUCTION: Each contestant will need to prepare a personal introduction to present on stage. This
should be no longer than 30 seconds and cover the following info: your name, where you are from, your age, your
life goals, and/or a fun fact about yourself. This will be judged on content, quality of delivery, and confidence.
CREATIVE WEAR: Each contestant should wear an outfit that represents the theme, “Winter Wonderland”.
Outfits may be purchased or handmade. Contestants must be able to wear outfits with no assistance. No midriffs
and any props must be able to be carried by contestants with no assistance. Outfits will be judged on creativity,
originality, and overall confidence.
VIDEO COMMERCIAL: Each contestant must submit a “commercial” promoting the Christmas at Austin
Landing and Winter Market festivities. Contestants may speak or sing. Commercials must be no longer than 30
seconds long. Once submitted, the commercial will become the property of Austin Landing. Submissions will be
used the following year to help promote the Winter Market and the pageant. Submissions should be emailed to:

MAKEUP: Age divisions (4-6) and (7-9) may wear clear lip gloss only. Division (10-12) may wear light
mascara and clear lip gloss. Divisions (13-15) & (16-19) may wear age appropriate make-up. This applies to all
events and categories. Judges may deduct points for make-up that is other than what is specified.
