Dear Readers, welcome to Cinebook’s 15th catalogue.

In putting Spirou on the cover of this catalogue, wecelebrate the 75th anniversary of this iconic character,so representative of the 9th Art, whose weeklymagazine in French saw the birth of many greatnames in Bandes Dessinées.

In order to pay homage to this legendary hero inEnglish, we chose to publish one of the volumes bygenius author Franquin. This provides a goodopportunity to discover his very peculiar creature, the Marsupilami, that Spirou and Fantasio have torescue from the clutches of thieves and exploiters.

We’re adding two new series to our line-up this time, both by the creator of “Crusade,” Jean Dufaux. Thefirst, “Barracuda,” will take us to the Spanish Mainas the entwined fates of three children unfold amidstpiracy and power struggles. Adventure, ahoy! In thesecond, illustrated by none other than “Thorgal”

artist Grzegorz Rosinski, the heir to the land ofEruin Dulea, Siobhán, discovers her own destiny.Hear the “Lament of the Lost Moors!”

Those with a soft spot for heroines who combinecharm and strength of character will be delightedwith Van Hamme’s reluctant spy “Lady S.,” framedas a mole in the United States capital; “Yoko Tsuno”dancing with the Devil to the sound of his organ; andinterstellar explorer Kim Keller, ready to unravelanother mystery on the inhospitable planet“Antares.” And let’s not forget spatio-temporalagent Laureline, who is forced to do all the hardwork after Valerian is kidnapped by parties unknown. No damsels in distress around here!

Diplomacy, politics and ambition play a big role insome of our other titles. The return of Runberg andPellé’s “Orbital” sees Caleb and Mezoke thrown tothe wolves as part of an electoral coup within theConfederation’s governing body. The paranormal

troubleshooters “SPOOKS” are sent to Cuba toinvestigate a mysterious rebel leader and his unusualabilities—before he can seriously disrupt Americanplans for the island. And, in a very different style,Goscinny’s Iznogoud is back for more bumbling,doomed-from-the-start yet hilarious attempts toseize power in Baghdad the Magnificent.

Power and greed are also key elements of theswashbuckling series “The Scorpion,” as the dashinghero fights on against the rule of Pope Trebaldi, drawing ever closer to the truth about his own past. There’s more period drama with the long-awaitedconclusion of nautical epic “Long John Silver” byLauffray and Dorison. Incredible art, fantasticcharacters… At last we will know what lurks inGuiana-Capac and what fate awaits Silver and hisremaining companions.

Speaking of epic, our Blake and Mortimer title isVolume 3 of The Secret of the Swordfish—the

conclusion of the story that started it all for E.P.Jacobs. Don’t miss watching the two British gentssave the world for the first time—and begin theirlong tradition of tweaking Olrik’s nose!

It’s all about the animal companions for our otherheroes. “Billy and Buddy” show us the magic ofwinter and how to have fun with it. “Yakari” isdealing with… well, just plain magic, as rabbit spiritNanabozo takes him on a long journey to rescueRainbow. Finally, Lucky Luke has his loyal JollyJumper with him as he faces everything the Old Westthrows at him: card sharks, Indian tribes on the warpath, and the annoyingly persistent Dalton brothers…in individual portions, this time!

That’s 18 new titles, 45 series, 264 books. We bringyou the best of European comics—and there’ssomething for everyone!

Travelling down the Rhine, Yoko and herfriends save a young stranger from drowning.Sensing foul play, the young Japanese girl decides to stay with her new friend Ingrid andinvestigate the unusual circumstances. There, amidst the beautiful castles of the Rhine Valley, she will face a danger straight out ofthe Renaissance and battle the devil himself tothe sound of his own monstrous pipe organ.

“With its themes of friendship, scientific deduc-tion and life-threatening danger there’s some-thing for everyone. Yoko is a strong, independentcharacter who uses logic and reason throughoutthe story, rather than brute force, to do the rightthing. This makes it somewhat refreshing to readand she’s certainly not a role model you can ob-ject to.” Simon Chadwick, The Cartoonist Clubof Great Britain
