Executive Director Mr. John Ware reported on the following:

1. State Budget Update: The 2012-2013 biennium budget process has begun to moveforward in the Legislature. On March 15 , the Governor introduced his budget proposalth

which was forwarded to the House of Representatives for the start of its budget hearings. AsI have reported to the Board previously, the Governor’s recommendations for the Board willrestore most of the funding that was cut from the Board’s budget during the currentbiennium. I testified on Monday, March 28 before the House Finance and Appropriationsth

Higher Education Subcommittee on the Board’s budget request. I provided the Board witha copy of my testimony. After the House completes its budget proposal, the process willmove to the Senate for more hearings and hopefully a new budget will take effect before theend of the fiscal year on June 30 . th

2. US Department of Education Meeting: On March 25 , I traveled to Chicago to meetth

with representatives of the USDOE Region 5 office and other states to discuss the newfederal regulations that are scheduled to go into effect on July 1 . In addition to thest

discussions that took place at the meeting, the USDOE issued two important “DearColleague” letters on March 17 and 18 clarifying parts of the new program integrity rulesth th

as well as the new federal credit hour definition. I would encourage all schools to familiarizethemselves with the issues discussed in the “Dear Colleague” letters that are posted on theUSDOE web site.

3. Director Training: The first director training seminar for 2011 will be held on April 21st

at the State Library of Ohio.

Investigator Ms. Kimberly Stein reported on the following:

Below is a summary of investigate activity for FY 11:

Since the January 26, 2011 meeting, we have opened nineteen (19) new cases. The new casesinclude sixteen (16) new student complaints and three (3) new investigative inquiries.

Since the January 26, 2011 meeting, we have closed twenty-four (24)total cases.
