17th Grant – in – Aid Committee Meeting held at

Central Institute of Indian Languages Mysore

on August 25, 2005

The Director welcomed the Chairperson and all the Committee Members of the GIA and briefed about the purview of the committee and the guidelines for the selection of the proposals under different GIA schemes. The committee considered all the proposals received and discussed them in detail, the decisions in respect of which are given below: SCHEME I : FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO VOLUNTARY ORG ANISATIONS

: Under the scheme for financial assistance to Voluntary

Organisations for the selected promotional activities relating to Indian languages (other than Hindi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, English and Urdu), 14 proposals were placed before the committee. The Director, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore is authorized to decide after further scrutiny.

Out of the above 304 cases, 265 cases were approved, 39 cases were not recommended and 1 was deferred.

The following books were screened by the committee and their recommendation is given against each book (The cases not recommended are shown as N.R. in the last column).

1) The term of the present Committee will end on January 6, 2006.

The next Grant-in-Aid Committee meeting is not likely to be held

before the expiry of the tenure of the present Committee.

Therefore, the Director, Central Institute of Indian Languages

expressed his thanks to all the members for their co-operation

during their tenure of the Committee.

2) The Committee decided that the books on language, linguistics,

literature and culture in English or Hindi but dealing with the

subject / topic of Indian languages under operation of Central

Institute of Indian Languages’ Grant-in-Aid will be considered by

the Central Institute of Indian Languages for financial assistance

because these are neither considered by Central Hindi

Directorate (for Hindi) nor by the Central Institute for English and

Foreign languages (for English).

3) The Committee also decided that the books which are less than

100 pages should be put up to the Director, Central Institute of

Indian Language for advice..
