  • THE TWINS: The Twins have gone 2-4 through six games on their seven-game homestand, going 1-3 against Houston and 1-1 against Kansas City...today, the Twins will play the three-game series finale with the Royals...they will enjoy an off-day tomorrow before traveling to Atlanta for two games Tuesday-Wednesday, then Kansas City for four games Thursday-Sunday...the Twins have gone 25-36 at home and 22-34 on the road.

    SATURDAY NIGHT’S ALRIGHT: The Twins beat the Royals last night by a score of 5-2, snapping their four-game losing streak...Tyler Duffey (8-8) was the starter and winner, allowing two runs on six hits in 7.0 innings pitched...Ryan Pressly and Brandon Kintzler combined for 2.0 innings of relief with no earned runs...Robbie Grossman had three of the Twins 12 hits, including a home run...Eddie Rosario and Brian Dozier also homered.

    ROYALTY: Joe Mauer is hitting .330 (212-for-643) with 38 doubles, four triples, 14 home runs, 110 RBI and a .411 on-base percentage in 173 career games against the Royals... in his last 15 games against KC, he is hitting .404 (23-for-57), reaching base multiple times in 12 of those...he ranks fourth all-time in batting average against KC (minimum 500 at-bats), trailing Rod Carew (.345), Ivan Rodriguez (.337) and Wade Boggs (.332); also fourth in on-base percentage, trailing Alex Rodriguez (.432), Boggs (.418) and Jim Thome (.414).

    POWER RANKINGS: The Twins have hit 138 home runs on the season, tied 13th most in baseball...since June 26, the Twins have hit 66 home runs, which leads baseball...since that date, Brian Dozier (16) leads baseball in home runs...Max Kepler (13) ranks tied for third.

    CENTURY MARK: Brian Dozier hit his 100th career home run last night, joining seven other active second basemen to have reached the 100-home run plateau: Robinson Cano (265), Chase Utley (244), Ian Kinsler (205), Brandon Phillips (194), Ben Zobrist (140), Dustin Pedroia (130) and Neil Walker (113)...he leads all MLB second basemen in homers since 2013 (94)...he also becomes the 16th Twin to reach 100 home runs (first second baseman) and first since Joe Mauer did it June 8, 2013 at Washington off Gio Gonzalez... he needs three home runs to tie his single-season career-high of 28, done last season... he has hit 17 home runs since June 25, the most in baseball since that date.

    ASince May 26, Dozier leads the AL and trails only Colorado’s Carlos Gonzalez (.663) with a .632 slugging percentage. IT’S THE HEAT, AND THE HUMIDITY: The Twins have gone 22-16 since July 2, tied for second most wins in baseball with Chicago-NL (22-13), trailing only Toronto (23-12)...in that span, they have outscored opponents 219-188 and out-hit opponents 383-363...since that date, the Twins are hitting .282 (383-for-1357) with 88 doubles, 15 triples, 54 home runs, 219runs scored, 132 walks, and a .346 on-base percentage...in that span, they lead baseball in runs scored, hits, doubles, triples, batting average and on-base percentage.

    MAUER’S MONTH: Joe Mauer is hitting .396 (19-for-48) with seven doubles, one triple, one home run, nine RBI, 10 runs scored, seven walks and a .473 on-base percentage in 12 games this month...his 19 hits this month are tied for fourth most in baseball for August... his .473 on-base percentage this month ranks eight in MLB.

    TOUCH ’EM ALL, LITTLE FALLS: WYRQ-FM is the 2016 recipient of the John Gordon Award as Twins Radio affiliate of the Year...located in Little Falls, MN, they have been a part of the Twins network for 27 seasons...they will receive a $5,000 grant from the Twins Community Fund to support their community’s Youth Baseball/Softball Associations...previous winners of this award include: WJON (St. Cloud) in 2015, KROC (Rochester) in 2014, WELY (Ely) in 2013 and KMGM (Montevideo) in 2012.

    ON THIS DAY IN TWINS HISTORY: In 1991, St. Paul native Dave Winfield hit his 400th career home run while playing for California, becoming the 23rd player in history to reach the milestone, in a 7-4 win over the Twins...the homer came off of left-handed pitcher David West.

    DINNER’S ON DOZIER: The 10th Annual Grand Slam Dinner, where Twins players wait on tables to raise money for The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities takes place tonight from 6-9 at The Capital Grille...the event, which has raised more than $475,000 to date, will be hosted by Brian Dozier and his wife Renee...many current and past Twins players will be in attendance to assist in the event.

    TWINS MINOR LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Single-A Ft. Myers right-handed pitcher Fernando Romero is the Twins minor league Player of the Week...Romero made one start for the Miracle, coming Friday vs. Charlotte, pitching 7.0 shutout innings with six hits allowed, no walks and 11 strikeouts...the 21-year-old has made nine starts for the Miracle this season, going 3-2, 2.39 ERA (49.0 IP, 13 ER) with eight walks and 48 strikeouts...he was signed by the Twins out of the Dominican Republic on November 4, 2011 and has a career minor league record of 10-7, 2.56 ERA (165.0 IP, 47 ER) with 45 walks and 157 strikeouts.
