DEAR LEARNERS!
Our University, created in 1950, is the leading medical university of Kazakhstan in training
qualified personnel for healthcare system, has high reputation in the field of provision the
educational, scientific, medical and diagnostic services, and has high national rating.
Now the University implements multilevel training of specialists: undergraduate studies
and higher professional education, postgraduate education (MA course, residency, and doctoral
studies) and additional education. Training is carried out in state, Russian and English languages.
There are more than seven thousand learners in the University. Our graduates work successfully
in Kazakhstan, in the near abroad and foreign countries.
Highly skilled staff teach at the University, among them are 1 Academician of the National
Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan and 1 Academician of the Academy of
Natural Sciences of RK, 71 Doctors of Science, 264 Candidates of Science, 1 Doctor of
Philosophy, 82 with Master’s Degree.
Quality of education and researches is provided through high level of infrastructure: 5
educational buildings with audiences equipped with the interactive equipment, scientific library
with reading rooms and electronic library room, Practical Skills Center with hi-tech simulators
and dummies, Research Center and Multiple-Access Laboratory, 6 dormitories, 52 clinical sites
of the departments, 476 bases for professional practice in the Republic of Kazakhstan and
abroad, polyclinic, clinical and diagnostic center, dental clinic, student sports and fitness
complexes and recreation areas.
In the field of medical education, science and practice the partners of the University are
medical higher educational institutions and scientific centers of Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus,
Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Bulgaria, Czech
Republic, Turkey, Israel, India, University of Southampton (Great Britain), Miami University
(USA), University of Perugia (Italy), University of Piraeus (Greece), University of Zagreb,
School of Medicine (Croatia), Medical University of Lodz (Poland), Taiwan University, College
of Medicine (Taiwan), Srinakharinwirot University (Thailand), International Medical University
(Malaysia), Chemium Ltd (Hungary).
KSMU is the first medical university of RK that passed successfully in 2005 the
certification of quality management system on compliance of the educational, scientific and
clinical activity with the requirements of ISO of 9001 series by the certification authority of
NQA – UK (Great Britain), NQA – Russia, with subsequent re-certification in 2008, 2011, 2014.
In 2011 the University obtained the certificate of University accreditation as the subject of
scientific and scientific-technical activity, in 2014 KSMU passed the institutional accreditation
of the university and specialized accreditation of 15 educational programs.
KSMU is included into the Directory of Avicenna Medical Schools of World Health
Organization and World Federation for Medical Education. KSMU is the member of the
Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE), Association for the Study of Medical
Education (ASME), Organization for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the
European System (ORPHEUS), Organization of University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific
(UMAP), International Association of Development Education (IADE).

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT KSMU
Republican state enterprise on the right of economic management “Karaganda State
Medical University” is located at the address: 100008, Karaganda, 40 Gogol Str., tel. 8 (7212)
513897, fax 8 (7212) 518931.

History of KSMU
Karaganda State Medical Institute (KSMI) was founded in 1950 on the basis of the
Dentistry Faculty of Kazan State University, which is one of the oldest higher educational
institutions of the Soviet Union (Resolution of the Council of Ministers of Kazakh Soviet
Socialist Republic No. 65 of January 20, 1950).
In the institute were opened: in 1959 – Sanitary and Hygienic Faculty, in 1978 – Dentistry
Faculty, in 1991 – General Medicine Faculty (GMF), in 1992 – Medicobiological Faculty
(MBF). Besides, were created: in 1969 – Central Research Laboratory (CRL), in 1992 –Faculty
of Professional Development for Medical-preventive and Clinical Disciplines (FPD), and in
1993 –Faculty of Pedagogical Professional Advancement (FPPA).
The acknowledgement of high quality of doctors training in KSMI was the assignment to
the Institute of the first category in 1961. In 1997 the Institute was reorganized into Karaganda
State Medical Academy (KSMA).
In 2001 KSMA passed successfully the state attestation and accreditation.
In 2002 was introduced the Dental Clinic, equipped with the latest dental facilities, which
is the clinical site for dentists training.
In 2002 were opened Student Policlinic and Clinical-diagnostic Laboratory of the
Academy.
In 2015 was opened Consultative and Diagnostic Center of KSMU.
In 2016 Polyclinic, Consultative and Diagnostic Center and Dental Clinic were integrated
in KSMU.
In 2003 MES of RK approved creating the Department of International Cooperation for
Work with Foreign Students. Now at KSMU study foreign citizens from India, Pakistan, China,
Yugoslavia, Germany, Mongolia, Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.
In September 2007 was organized the Practical Skills Centre working on development and
practical skills passage by the learners and interns on the training models and virtual simulators
in accordance with the requirements of SOSE RK 2006.
In 2009 the Academy was reorganized into the University.
In 2010 the University obtained the certificate of institutional accreditation passage, in
2011 the certificate of KSMU accreditation as the subject of scientific and/or scientific and

technical activity, in 2012 passed successfully the state certifying commission of MH of RK.
The main achievements of the University for the periods of implementation of Strategic
development plans of KSMU from 2007 to 2013 years:
2010 year – 1 place in the rating of medical higher educational institutions;
2011 year – 2 place in the rating of medical higher educational institutions;
2012 year – 3 place in the rating of medical higher educational institutions;
2013 year – 2 place in the rating of medical higher educational institutions and 8 place in
the General rating of medical higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan.
Rating of educational programs:
2010 year – 1 place on specialties “Public healthcare” and “Nursing care”, 2 place on
specialties “Dentistry” and “Pharmacy”;
2011 year – 2 place on specialties “General medicine”, “Medical and preventive care”;
2012 year – 2 place on specialty “General medicine”.
Rating of scientific organizations and higher educational institutions of MH of RK:
2013 year – 4 place;
2014 year – 3 place.
Within the Republican rating program of the enterprises, the leaders of the economy of
Kazakhstan “Leader of Kazakhstan 2013”, KSMU entered Top – 35 of National business rating
and was awarded the National certificate and the medal “Leader of Kazakhstan 2013”.
Membership in the international organizations: in 2010 KSMU signed the Great Charter of
Universities (Bologna, Italy); in 2011 the University was included in the Directory of Avicenna
Medical Schools of World Health Organization and World Federation for Medical Education;
since 2011 it is the member of Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE),
Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME), Organization for PhD Education in
Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the European System (ORPHEUS), Asian Medical
Education Association (AMEA), since 2012 – International Association of Development
Education (IADE), since 2013 – University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP).
International cooperation is carried out with 45 universities and scientific centers from 32
countries of the world: Europe, America, CIS and Asia.
Now KSMU is one of the leading medical higher educational institutions of the Republic
of Kazakhstan which develops successfully the best traditions of training of specialists for health
system.

Psychological Aid to the Learners
KSMU learners may receive psychological counselling and psychotherapeutic aid from the
qualified specialists. If necessary, one may address on the issues of difficulties in adapting to
training due to personal and personality problems, interpersonal conflicts, in cases of depressed
mood and mental performance reduction, sleep disturbances, and any other psychological
problems.

Advisors service is the service on rendering assistance to the learners when compiling the

CODE OF HONOR OF KSMU STUDENT
We are the students of Karaganda State Medical University, comprehending the
responsibility for the implementation of the mission of KSMU in preparation of competitive,
professional, owning steady competences on the specialty, and being personalities capable of
self-education and self-improvement, hereby adopt this Code of Honor and pledge to follow it
strictly.
Having the honor to be a student of Karaganda State Medical University, one of the most
prestigious medical universities of the country, to aim for becoming a worthy citizen of the
Republic of Kazakhstan.
Preparing for professional activity, I undertake to acquire knowledge sedulously, to use all
opportunities in order to acquire and enhance practical skills in the chosen field, mindful of the
fact that a mistake may cost a patient’s life.
Treat with respect the teachers and employees of the University, to observe the principle of
mutual respect with other students, not to infringe upon the honor and dignity of others.
To honor, strengthen and enhance the traditions of the University, uphold the dignity and
prestige of the University, enhance its authority, and to protect the property of KSMU.
To lead a healthy lifestyle, participate in sports and social activities of the University, give
up completely bad habits, to be the adversary of religious, racial, national animosity.
Exclude dishonesty during the attestation tests (current, intermediate, final controls): not to
cheat or use cheat sheets and electronic devices, not to use personal, familial and official
relationships, not to offer bribes to the teachers and administration for the purpose of obtaining
privileges in training, not to present ready-made training materials as the results of one’s own
work.
By violating the Code of Honor, I am not worthy to be a student of KSMU.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS OF THE LEARNERS
The rights of the learners:
To obtain education within the obligatory standards of specialty (SOSE);
To study according to the chosen educational path;
To transfer from one form of training to another, from one organization of education to
another, from one specialty to another in the order established by the current legislation of
RK and internal documents of higher educational institution on the basis of the order of a
rector, proceeding from the results of training program passage;
Free access, for the period of training, to using fund of educational and methodical
literature on the basis of the library and reading rooms in the order and under conditions
established by specific internal documents of higher educational institution;
Participation in student's self-government;
Respect of human dignity.
The learners of the University are obliged:
To present oneself for the examination at the time frames specified in the approved
schedule.
To have by one a document of standard type certifying the identity (student card, record
book, ID card), follow the instructions of the auditorium person on duty.
In case of nonfulfillment of stated points, and also the removal or unauthorized leave from
the auditorium or computerized testing room, in case of unauthorized exam passage
outside the places designated by the schedule or terms not specified in the schedule, the
result of the final control is canceled. On this the act of the revealed violations is drawn up.
In the examination record “0”, grade is filled which equals to the academic failure.
To acquire systematically and deeply the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the
chosen specialty according to the competences approved by the Academic Council of
KSMU;
To observe the educational discipline, fulfill the Rules of labour (internal) order, the
Regulations on dormitory, or other local acts and instructions of the University
administration;
To attend lectures, practical training and fulfill within the established deadlines all types of
assignments provided by the curriculum and programs.
To observe during the period of training the dress code established in the University;
To switch-off mobile (cellular) phones during lectures, practical training, midterm
examination and final control;
To counteract the conditions for corruption activities;
To observe the Code of Honor of the learner (developed by the association of students and
teachers of higher educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan and approved by
the Ministry of Education and Science in 2010), Code of ethical standards of KSMU.
The learners have to use carefully and neatly the state ownership (entrusted stock, manuals,
books, devices, electronic access cards, etc.). The learners are forbidden to take out,
without the permission of the University administration, things and different facilities from
the laboratories, educational and other rooms.
The learners have to be disciplined, correct in behavior not only at the educational
institution but also at clinical sites and public places.
Proper cleanliness and order in all educational and industrial practice rooms are ensured by
maintenance personnel and the learners on the basis of self-service according to the
schedule established in the educational institution.

NORMATIVE LEGAL DOCUMENTS
The order of education organization on all levels of education (higher and postgraduate
education) is determined by the academic policy of KSMU.
The procedure of granting an academic leave to the learners is carried out in accordance
with the Order of the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan of
December 4, 2014 No. 506 (registered in the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of
Kazakhstan on March 17, 2015 No. 10475) “On approval of the Rules of granting
academic leaves to the learners in the educational institutions”.
The order of educational scholarship award is carried out according to the Decree of the
Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan of February 7, 2008 № 116 “On approval of
the Rules of state scholarships paid to certain categories of students in the educational
institutions” (with amendments as of 03.06.2016) and the Order of the Minister of
Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan of April 7, 2011 No. 136 “On
approval of the Rules of scholarships award established by the President of the Republic
of Kazakhstan”.
The procedure of awarding vacant educational grants released in the process of higher
education obtainment is carried out according to the Decree of the Government of the
Republic of Kazakhstan of January 23, 2008 No. 58 “The Rules of awarding educational
grant for higher education payment” (with amendments and additions).

ORGANIZATION OF EDUCATIONAL PROCESS IN UNIVERSITY
Organization of educational process within one academic year is based on the academic
calendar. All training, monitoring activities of educational process, duration of practices,
vacations and holidays are reflected in the academic calendar, approved by the head of the
educational organization.
The IHL within the frameworks of academic freedom divides the academic year into
academic periods (semesters) with the duration of 15-22 weeks each. Educational activities
include the entire period of theoretical training, including research work of students,
undergraduates, doctoral students, teaching, research and industrial practices, workshops,
laboratory works.
Assessment of the current progress of the learners, the rules of making up missed classes,
admission to session, the rules of final control on the discipline, calculation of the academic
rating of the learner, methodology of calculating GPA and transfer grade are presented in the
section “Regulations on rating system of evaluation of the learners” of the academic policy of the
IHL, posted on the student portal of KGMU (spkgmu.kz).
Transfer of the learners is carried out from course to course, from one educational
organization to another, from one form of training to another, from one language department to
another, from one specialty to another, from paid basis to training on the state educational order.
The rules and procedure of transfer and reinstatement are presented in the academic policy of
IHL, posted on student portal of KGMU (spkgmu.kz).
A learner implemented the program of the course in full, but failed to gain transfer points
in order to enlarge GPA and liquidate the academic failures, is given the opportunity of re-
training on particular disciplines on the paid basis in summer semester. The terms of registration
for summer semester are regulated by the academic calendar.
The order and organization of summer semester are presented in the academic policy of
IHL in the section “The Rules of summer semester organization”.
Learners enrollment in educational disciplines
Elective disciplines are the components of the State Obligatory Standard of Education in
each direction of preparation (specialty). In development of the CED participate the employers,
besides the learners can make suggestions on inclusion of the disciplines of their interest in CED.
Registration of the learners for studying the elective disciplines will be organized by the
Registrar’s office.
Procedure of electronic registration for elective disciplines is made according to the
academic calendar. After consultation with the advisor, the learners have to register for the
elected disciplines within a week on the website http://elective.kgma.kz/
On site of electronic registration, a learner can receive the information on registration for
the disciplines, the list of the elective disciplines, brief description of the discipline.
A learner has the right within 3 days to change chosen discipline and go through
registration procedure again. After completion of electronic registration, “The registration form”
is made that has to be printed, signed by the learner and submitted to the Dean's office.
In case of problems arising in the process of electronic registration passing, or any
questions on the registration for elective disciplines, a learner may leave an inquiry to the site
administrator.
All learners must be registered by the deadline of registration for elective disciplines.
Late registration is allowed only in exceptional cases on the basis of the personal statement
of the learner clarifying the reasons of impossibility of timely registration. The illness of the
learner, family circumstances or other objective reasons confirmed by the corresponding
certificates/documents may be the cause. The statement is considered by the Dean of the faculty
and, in case of coming to positive decision, signed by the Vice-rector for Educational and
Methodological Work. For late registration without a valid reason a learner will be reprimanded.

If for the discipline in due time were registered less learners than the minimum required
number, for 1-3 courses less than 10, for 4- 7 courses less than 6-7, then the discipline is not
open
Individual curriculum (IC) for the next academic year a learner forms in accordance with
set form till 30 July of the current academic year. Further changes to the IC of the learner during
the academic year are not allowed.
After completion of registration for elective disciplines the IC of the learners are approved
by the Dean of the faculty.
The Registrar’s office together with the dean’s offices form the academic groups and
batches.
Academic mobility
The academic mobility is the transference of the learners for a certain academic period
(including educational training and industrial practice passage), as a rule, a semester or academic
year, to another higher educational institution (inland or abroad) for training or research
conducting, with obligatory credit transfer, in established order, of adopted educational programs
in the form of credits (hours) at their higher educational institution.
The learners may choose independently another IHL (inland or abroad), define the list of
disciplines for studying and submit an application to the coordinator of programs.
Academic leave
Academic leave is a period for which the learners of the educational institutions (students,
interns, graduates, doctoral students, residents) temporarily interrupt their studies due to medical
reasons and in other exceptional cases.
The Rules of academic leave granting to the learners, the procedure of granting and
withdrawal procedure are stated in the academic policy of the University in section “Rules of
academic leave granting to the learners”.
Procedure of vacant educational grants award
Vacant educational grants released in the process of higher education obtainment in the
context of specialties of training are awarded on the competitive basis to the learners on a paid
basis on the given specialty. The competition is held according to the results of interim
certification with the issuance of the certificate of educational grant awarding. The procedure of
vacant educational grants award is presented in the academic policy of the University in the
section “Procedure of vacant educational grants award”.

Rules of entrance to the Republic of Kazakhstan
1. Foreign citizens enter and leave the Republic of Kazakhstan by valid passports, with the visa
of the Republic of Kazakhstan through the checkpoints at the state border.
2. Foreign citizens entering the Republic of Kazakhstan for business purposes, for study and as
tourists, can not be employed on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Entry into the Republic of Kazakhstan of a foreign citizen may be not allowed:
if he or she acts against the sovereignty of the Republic of Kazakhstan, calls for violation of
unity and integrity of its territory;
if he/she stirs up interstate, interethnic and religious hatred;
if he/she is convicted for terrorist activity or recognized as especially dangerous recidivist;
if he/she has been banished from the Republic of Kazakhstan;
if during a previous stay in the Republic of Kazakhstan were established facts of violation of
legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan by him or her;
if he/she gave false information about him- or herself or didn't submit required documents;
in the interests of ensuring national security, public order or public health;
if it is necessary for protection of the rights and legitimate interests of citizens of the
Republic of Kazakhstan
Rules of registration of foreign citizens
All foreign citizens should be registered in the Migration Police Department within 5 days
after crossing the border of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Foreign citizens arrived to the Republic of Kazakhstan for training have to submit to the
Legal Department the following documents and their copies:
- national passport;
- migration card with the mark of entry in the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- 2 photos 3х4.
10 days prior to the expiration of the registration it is necessary to prolong the term of its
validity. Extension of registration is possible only in case of confirmation of training period
continuation at the university.
In case of going outside the city or the Republic of Kazakhstan it is necessary to notify the
Dean's office and write a statement.
Failure to comply with the rules of passport and visa regime is an administrative offence
and entails the application of penalties and the consideration of further study at the University
and staying on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Departure from the Republic of Kazakhstan of a foreign citizen is not allowed:
1. if there are grounds for bringing him or her to criminal responsibility – until the end of
proceedings;
2. if he or she is convicted of a crime – until serving the punishment or release from
punishment;
3. if he or she declines to fulfil obligations imposed on him or her by the court - till obligations
performance;
4. departure of a foreign citizen from the Republic of Kazakhstan may be postponed until the
fulfillment of property obligations connected with the interests of the citizens of the Republic
of Kazakhstan, other individuals and legal entities.
Passports of foreign students are registered for one academic year.
Preparation of documents for entering KSMU:
Foreign citizens coming to the Republic of Kazakhstan for training should provide the
following set of documents:
- original national passport of the applicant (or identity document), translated into Russian and
Kazakh languages and notarized;
- original document of secondary education specifying studied subjects and grades on these
subjects received on the exam (points), translated into Russian and Kazakh languages and
notarized;
- health assessment (Form No. 086У);
- 6 photos 3x4.
The documents about education must go through consular legalization in the order
established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, or must be
apostilled.

Thereafter, a foreign citizen must undergo the procedure of nostrification.
For this procedure, he or she must submit to the National Accreditation Centre of Astana
the following documents:
- application for nostrification of education document;
- original of the document confirming education;
- supplement to the document specifying passed training courses and their amount,
received final grades, list of practices, etc.;
- notarized translation of the document about education and its supplement in state or
official language;
- a copy of the document proving the identity of the owner of the education document,
certified by a notary (2 copies).
ELECTRONIC RESOURCES OF KSMU
In 16 computer classrooms the centralized computer control of knowledge of the learners
is held and also training in computer science is conducted.

There is an official website of KSMU registered as www.kgmu.kz. On this website the
general information about the University, its divisions, and also the news and announcements are
presented. The website provides access of the learners to educational-methodical complex of
disciplines, schedule, schedules of exams and other necessary documents for training. On
website of KGMU each learner has the opportunity to contact the Rector on arising issues via
virtual reception desk.
Correspondence and exchange of documents between the learners and teachers may be
carried out with the use of corporate e-mail. Official e-mail address of the University is
[email protected]. Other resources are also available, more detailed information may be found on
the website of the University.
In academic buildings and dormitories of KSMU is provided Wi-Fi Internet access to all
learners of KSMU. The average connection speed is 70 Mbps. In order to use Wi-Fi Internet it is
necessary to find Wi-Fi network called “KGMU4Students”. Authorization is done by entering
the username and password that can be obtained in the Dean's office.
Student portal of the University is put into service. Information resource contains not only
all necessary information on the educational process, including educational-methodical complex
and facility instrumentation for studied disciplines, but also focuses on the professional
development of the learners of KSMU, promotion of the communication of the learners and
teachers, exchange of experience, ideas and opinions. Official e-mail address is spkgmu.kz.
At Karaganda State Medical University functions “Platonus” automated system through
which, by receiving a personal username and password, to the learners is provided online access
to information on their current and final academic progress.
In order to use the educational portal each learner is assigned an individual login, which is
given by the Dean’s office.
The user is solely responsible for keeping his or her login/password secret from third
persons and timely replacement of password in case of disclosure, or apply to the Registrar’s
office of the Department of Educational and Methodological Work in case of password loss.
To log in to “Platonus” educational portal it is necessary to type in the browser the
following address: http://platon.kgmu.kz/.
If the page does not appear, it means that the address entered is not correct.

On the page of language selection you should select the language by clicking on the
appropriate link. The system fully supports 3 languages – Kazakh, Russian and English. After
you select the language, the login page will appear.

“Personal learner page” will be opened.
On the main page the most important data is displayed. The page is divided into 2 main
parts
1. Greeting
2. Messages. In this section the last messages, assignments and announcements sent to you
are presented. To view a message, click on its name.
When you first enter the program, a password must be changed. To change the
authorization settings, go to “Settings”. Enter new password, confirm it and click “Accept”.

Virtual “classroom” is a place for classes conduction, where a teacher and the learners may
hold on a conversation via chat, graphic board. Also the classroom provides access to training
materials (cases) on the discipline.
For the learner in the list are displayed the classrooms for subjects that he or she will study
in the current academic year.
In order to go into a classroom, click on the link of the main menu “Classroom” and click
on the arrow “Enter” of the required discipline.
After entering the classroom, a very easy and clear interface with different kinds of
possibilities will open.
The “Classroom” module gives you the opportunity to chat with the teachers of selected
disciplines.

From classroom you may go to the gradebook to view the given grades, check e-mail for
new messages, tasks, announcements. Links to the gradebook and message system are provided
for the possibility of sharing files and tasks without leaving the classroom.

Individual curriculum is the curriculum formed for each academic year by the learners
independently with the help of an advisor, and includes a list of mandatory and elective
disciplines.
Also there is available the academic calendar, specifying the period of conducting learning
and control activities, professional practices within the academic year, as well specifying the
days of rest (breaks and holidays).

In the transcript is shown the final grade on the studied discipline. Transcript data becomes
accessible at the end of the session completion.
In the appeal section is shown a list of passed exams in the form of computerized testing.
Within a day from the moment of test ending, it is possible to make an application for
appeal.
Messages module is dedicated to the implementation of guaranteed message delivery,
setting of assignments, posting announcements.
Each message has its own expiry time. After this period a message will be deleted from the
mailbox. The expiry time can not be more than 30 days. Messages in the system are classified
into three types.
• Personal messages (simple message with the possibilities of attaching, deleting, and
status).
• Assignments (status, additional status of assignments fulfillment is set by the sender, the
possibility of multicasting to the academic batch of the learners).
• Announcements (possibility of multicasting to all users of the system, all faculty,
learners, learners of any specialty, group, course, form of training, etc.).

In order to create a message, you should select “Write a message” by clicking on the link
with the mouse cursor.
After all necessary information is entered, you have to identify the recipient by clicking on
the “Send” button. If the fields are filled in and there are no errors, the user goes to the page of
recipient identification, which looks like this:
On this page you can choose the recipient who you will sent the message to. When
selecting from the drop-down list one of the options, the page will change its appearance
depending on the option meaning. For example, if “To all learners of specialty” option is
selected, the page will display all specialties, analogously in case of selecting “To the faculty”
option a list of all faculties will be displayed. To select a recipient, it is necessary to click with a
mouse on the appropriate option button (round) on the left side of his or her name (name of the
group, department, etc.). After the recipient is determined, in order to send the message you
should click “Send”.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Practical Skills Center (PSC)
PSC provides the opportunity to the learners to develop and maintain clinical competence,
provides a safe environment for learning, facilitates effective training in clinical skills and forms
learning skills throughout the entire life.
The simulators enable the learners to achieve the necessary level of competence and safety
before the use of technology or procedure on a patient in real clinical practice. The learners can
make mistakes without adverse consequences. Training in clinical skills under the supervision of
a teacher provides an opportunity to the learners to make mistakes in a safe environment that
promotes improving the fulfilment by them of clinical skills.
In terms of PSC the skills can be practiced as often as necessary in order to master the
skill, what cannot be achieved by training on patients. The learners do not depend on the patients
and they can learn “from mistakes”.
Practical Skills Center is equipped with the appropriate training equipment (dummies,
simulators, medical equipment and products), computer and audio-video equipment, ensuring the
adequate training in clinical skills and basic disciplines of the medical field.
Practical Skills Center is located at:

Work schedule of PSC:
from Monday to Friday from 08.00 to 20.00, Saturdays from 09.00 to 14.00
A learner may gain admittance to study at the PSC in the course of:
1. Educational process according to the schedule of practical classes conduction at PSC for the
semesters of current academic year. The schedule can be viewed on SharePoint student portal in
PSC section (https://kgmukz.sharepoint.com/51CPN) or directly at the registration sector of PSC
(office 207).
2. Independent work of the learner: for this the learners should be registered in the “Register
of students for independent training” at the registration section of PSC (office 207) or at student
portal from Monday to Friday. Saturday (from 9.00 to 13.00) is the day of independent work of
the learner at PSC. Early application of the learner for SIW will help the employees of PSC to
plan and prepare classrooms for the adoption of practical skills of the learners.
3. Matching up missed classes at PSC: the learners match up missed classes at PSC (on
Saturdays from 9.00 to 13.00) by prior registration in the “Register of classes matching up”.
Classes matching up is taken by the practical skills duty trainer of PSC. The original admission is
registered and kept at the registration section of PSC (office 207)
4. Practical skills training when preparing for OSCE: the learners practice their skills at the
PSC by prior registration in the “Register of students for independent training”. The class is held
by the practical skills trainer of PSC.
5. On SharePoint student portal in the section of PSC, you can also familiarize with the results of
OSCE and teaching materials for classes (in educational-methodical complex of disciplines
(EMCD) section).
Rules of behavior for the learners at the PSC
Outer clothing and shoes should be left in the cloakroom.
Bags and personal belongings should be left in a metal storage unit of the PSC
(instructions for use are posted on the lockers).
Keep silent when training at the PSC.
It is necessary to wear a robe, cap, shoe covers.
During the class with simulators the cell phones must be turned off because the
electromagnetic interference may lead to a malfunction with high-tech dummies.
It is forbidden to make any manipulations with the equipment without the presence of the
teacher, or other staff of PSC.
It is forbidden to independently switch on/off, load programs in computers without a
teacher or other staff of PSC.
When taking classes, you should be extremely careful and cautious with the equipment
and dummies.

At occurrence of any faults or breakdowns of the equipment, dummies, computers, you
should immediately inform the staff of PSC. Do not try to correct the fault on your own.
When pouring liquid in the simulator or dummy, be careful as the internal components of
the dummy may be damaged.
When using medical instruments in manipulation making, be careful because may be
broken damage to the dummy.
Marks made on the dummy with a ballpoint pen, ink or markers are not washed off.
The iodine or similar solution are not allowed to use for the simulators and dummies.
Do not cover the simulator with a newspaper.
When introducing any invasive device, one should use the water-based silicone spray.
After the classes it is necessary to deduce carefully all the liquid from the simulator.
To examine the integrity of a simulator or a dummy.
Dummies and simulators are cleansed with a mild detergent, soap and water.
It is necessary to clean up the workplace and to give the simulator and medical
instrumentation to the laboratory assistant of PSC.
Earnest request is to use carefully and not to spoil the educational equipment and medical
instrumentation.
Library of KSMU
Library of KSMU is the leading structural subdivision, providing literature and information
for the educational process and researches. Library of KSMU has a total capacity of more than
800 thousands of copies, and more than 10 thousand of readers.
The library is located in three buildings:

Study materials for all courses in state and Russian language may be obtained on the
educational subscription, located at the building of the dormitory No. 2 (36 Gogol Str.).
Study materials in foreign language, may be obtained on the educational subscription
located at the building of the dormitory No. 7 (33 Bulvar Mira).
Fund of study materials consists of textbooks, atlases, tutorials, manuals for practical
exercises.
The learners are serviced by the library on the basis of the order of enrollment in the
presence of a library card. The library card is issued to first-year students during the group
textbook provision, according to the formed schedule. The books taken from the library must be
returned exactly in due time. Students of 1-3 courses hand over the textbooks after each semester
and at the end of the academic year in the process of studied disciplines completion, but not later
than two weeks after the date of the last exam. Students of 4-6 courses hand over the textbooks
after each training cycle.
Loss and damage of library books deprives the reader of the right to use the library.
The readers responsible for loss or unintentional damage of editions, replace them with the
same editions or editions recognized by the library as equivalent, and at impossibility of
replacement the user must compensate for the damage adjusted for the market value of some or

Scientific activity
The Council of Young Scientists and Students was created in 2004. The Council is
engaged in the involvement of young scientists and students into scientific activity, participation
in various competitions and conferences. The main research work of students is conducted as a
part of scientific student's associations, circles. The students are given the opportunity not only to
familiarize with the real research problems and develop the draft decisions, but also to
implement their suggestions in practice.
The Council of Young Scientists and Students cooperates with the Department of
Scientific and Innovative Activity Management and with the Research Center. More information

Youth Work Department of Karaganda State Medical University makes a great

Student self-government Committee (hereinafter SSGC) is a form of the initiative,
independent public work of students aimed at the development of social activity, support of
social initiatives of students. Participation of students in the work of SSGC promotes the
development of management skills, formation of the responsible attitude of students to the
possibilities and prospects of their professional and cultural-moral self-organization.
The SSGC includes: “Samruk” Student Republic, SSGC of faculties, SSGC of dormitories,
Student Union (ombudsman).
“Samruk” Student Republic is the representative body of student self-government of
KSMU, whose tasks and content of the activities are the assisting the University administration
in carrying out educational, educative and youth policy. The President is Samatov Temirlan

SSGC of dormitories are designed to settle the matters of improving the life and domestic
life of students living in the dormitories. It is a student self-government body in the field of

Branch of the Republican student movement “Alliance of students of Kazakhstan” at
KSMU is the student volunteer movement, whose main purpose is settling legal, socio-economic

Branch of public association “Zhas Otan” Youth wing of “Nur Otan” Party in KSMU with the aim of increasing the number of supporters of the policy of the President and “Nur
Otan” Party among young people. The Head is Zholshybek Nurmakhan Zhambululy
At KSMU since 1957 is published “Medik” monthly large-circulation newspaper. In the
newspaper are published the achievements of students of KSMU, the information on activities in
the field of youth policy conducted at the University. Each learner may provide information for
the newspaper, after reconciling with a supervisor, head of department, Deputy Dean or the Head
of the Youth Work Department.

Sports club of KSMU
For the purpose of promoting healthy lifestyle and health strengthening among the
learners, at the University was founded Sports club of KSMU. The sports club is guided by
Batirov Fahriddin Abdizhaparovich ([email protected]). The main objective of the Sports club is
the arrangement of participation of the University learners in various sports competitions on the
level of the University, city, region and Republic.

Every year at KSMU are held the Open Spartakiad of medical universities of Kazakhstan
“KSMU OPEN”, festival of national sports, “Day of Health” mass sports festival, “Freshman”
spartakiad, “Merry Starts”, University Championship of Kazaksha kures wrestling, inter-faculty
student spartakiad, spartakiad among teaching staff and employees, football championships of
KSMU. The team of KSMU on mini-football is a regular participant of “Student League”
drawing and plays in the championship among the collectives of physical culture.
Great attention of the Sports club is given to participation of the learners in various track
and field athletics competitions: KSMU championship, “Autumn Cross” and “Winter Cross”
mass athletics races, in “Golden Autumn” city athletics relay-races, and in relay-races for the
prizes of “Industrial Karaganda” newspaper and the Spartakiad for the Akim's prize.
An important direction of the Sports club is the involvement of the learners of the
University into the active sports playing, regular training in volleyball, basketball, table tennis,
football, skiing, sports dancing.
Admission Committee of KSMU
The Admission Committee arranges the enrollment of the learners, acceptance of the
documents of intrants, entrance examinations conduction and enrollment in the number of the
learners of KSMU, and also makes organization and provision of professional orientation work.
The Chairman of the Admission Committee is the Rector, Vice-Chairman is the Vice-
rector for Educational and Methodological Work. The Admission Committee also includes vice-
rectors, directors (deputy directors) of the departments (centres), deans (vice-deans) of the
faculties, the Head of Youth Work Department, representatives of trade union organizations,
employees of the University from among the teaching staff.
Organization of work of Admission Committee is made by the Executive Secretary and his
or her deputies. In order to ensure the acceptance of documents from intrants and registration of
personal files for the period of admission campaign conduction, the technical Secretariat and the
programmer are assigned. In order to ensure the work of the Admission Committee the public
Secretariat from among the learners of the University can be created.

Academic mobility is the transference of the learners or teacher-researchers for studying
or research conducting for a certain academic period (semester or academic year) to other higher
educational institution (inland or abroad) with obligatory credit transfer of adopted educational
programs in the form of credits (hours) at their higher educational institution or for study
continuation at other higher educational institution;
Academic Calendar is the calendar of conducting the educational and control measures,
professional practices within the academic year with the indication of rest days (breaks and
holidays);
Academic period (Term) is the period of theoretical training fixed independently by the
organization of education in one of three forms: semester, trimester, quarter;
Learner academic rating (Rating) is the quantity indicator of the level of the training
program of the disciplines adoption by the learners, made according to the results of interim
attestation;
Point-rating alphabetic system of academic progress assessment is the system of
academic progress level assessment in the points corresponding to the alphabetic system
accepted in the international practice with the digital equivalent which allows to apprise the
students rating;
Final assessment is the learners academic progress control for evaluating the quality of
academic discipline program adoption conducted in the period of interim attestation in the form
of an exam. If the discipline is studied throughout several academic periods, then the final
assessment can be carried out on the part of the discipline studied in this academic period;
Catalog of elective disciplines is systematized annotated list of all disciplines of the
elective component, containing their short description specifying the purpose of studying, brief
content (main sections) and expected results of studying (acquired knowledge, skills and
competences)
Learner academic progress control is the check of the level of student knowledge
through various forms of control (current, midterm and final) and attestation established
independently by a higher educational institution;
The learners are the students, graduate students, residents and doctoral students training at
a higher educational institution;
Registrar’s office is the academic service in charge of registering the entire history of
student academic progress and providing the arrangement of all types of knowledge control and
the calculation of its academic rating;
Postrequisite is the disciplines, which require the knowledge and skills acquired after
completing the study of this discipline;
Prerequisite is the disciplines containing the knowledge and skills necessary for studied
discipline adoption;
Interim attestation (session) is the procedure carried out during the examination period in
order to evaluate the quality of adopting a part or total amount of academic discipline by the
learners after its study completion;
Midterm examination is the control of learner academic progress on the completion of a
section (module) of one academic discipline; conducted as a rule 2 times per semester, according
to the schedule of the Department, agreed with the Dean's office
Student independent work (SIW) is the work under the certain list of subjects for
independent studying, provided with courseware and recommendations and controlled in the
form of tests, examinations, colloquiums, library-research papers, compositions and reports. The
total amount of SIW is confirmed by the tasks demanding daily independent work of students;
Student independent work under teacher control (SIWTC) is the extracurricular work
of a student under the supervision of a teacher according to the approved schedule;
Grade Point Average (GPA) is the average assessment of student academic progress level
per one academic year on selected program (the ratio of the sum of products of credits/hours by
the digital equivalent of credit assessment of interim attestation on the disciplines to the total
number of credits/hours for the current period of study);

Current control of learner progress is the systematic examination of knowledge of the
learners in accordance with the academic program conducted by the teacher at the classroom and
out-of-class lessons during the academic period;
Transcript is the standard document containing the list of studied disciplines per the
corresponding period of training with the indication of credits and grades in alphabetical and
digital forms;
Learner academic achievements are the knowledge, skills and competencies of students
gained in the process of training and reflecting the achieved level of an individual development;
Elective disciplines are the academic disciplines included in the elective component of
SOSE, introduced by the educational institutions in coordination with the employers, learners,
teachers, enabling the formation of individual educational direction of training of the learner,
considering the particularity of social and economic development and the needs of a particular
region, established scientific schools of a higher educational institution.
Adviser is a teacher who serves as the academic mentor of the learner on the relevant
specialty, providing assistance in the selection of training direction (formation of the individual
curriculum) and adoption of educational program during the training period.
