CameraThroughout this music video, there are many mid shots used. In one of the first establishing shots, the camera highlights the top half of Miley Cyrus’ body, the camera then slides over her slightly. By using the angle, it shows off her body. The use of mid shots are used for Miley to flaunt her body, therefore depicting that she can do whatever she wants. The different angles of the camera draw close attention to her and her body, this is what she is aiming to do. She wants the audience to think she is desirable.

CameraIn the first establishing shot, a close up is used. The main object in the shot is a ‘Beats Pill Speaker’. This shows that Miley has been paid to advertise this brand in her music video. This entices her viewers to buy the products as she is promoting them.

Cyrus’ wealth is also seen in this shot. All of her jewellery that is worn is gold, without including what the connotations of gold are, gold jewellery is already quite expensive. Her nail polish is also gold, which represents success, achievement and triumph.

CameraDuring the video, whenever the artist is dancing, the shot turns into a long shot. This is used, again, to highlight her body. Her and her friends are seen dancing in a seductive manner. In this particular shot, the lyrics go like ‘shaking it like we at a strip club’, the dancing goes along with lyrics as the movements are quite ‘tempting’ to the audience. The long shot also allows the camera to depict this, as you are able to see full view of her body.

Mise-en-sceneThroughout the establishing shots, we are introduced to many different pink items; pink scissors, lip balm, Beats speakers and pink blood as a replacement. Throughout the house scenes, there are also some pink lights that are lit dimly. This specific colour could have been used to portray the idea of being ‘free and young’. The colour pink is also very feminine, which Miley associates herself with.

GenreThis music video falls into the genre of ‘Pop’. This is seen by using a lot of dance scenes and close ups of the artists, which is common in pop music. By using these things, it shows that they are having a good time, which supports the tempo of the song. The character that Cyrus is playing is portrayed as sexual, due to the outfits she is wearing like; crop tops, shorts, small swimsuit and leggings. This is seen in many music videos as the artist is trying to get the audiences attention.

EditingWith the use of editing in this music video it puts all the shots together in the right place and at the right time. Throughout this video, there are lots of quick cuts, this draws attention to the different scenes and different situations that are going on in the video. Cyrus uses the visual images as a montage to get through lots of shots as quickly as she can. The quick shots go with the lyrics as when she sings, ‘we can do what we want’, she shows the viewers that she can do whatever she wants.

EditingThis music video uses a lot of quick editing. A lot of this is to match the visuals with the music. The quick edits gives the audience the idea that time is going fast, too fast, implying that they are having a good time, therefore it is going too quick. Whereas, if the editing was slow, it would imply them being bored.
