From the earliest colonial period until

the modern age, wool production played a key

phrase ‘riding on the sheep’s back’ was coined to emphasise the reliance

of Australia on the success of the industry. Available in Proof

and Brilliant Uncirculated quality, these sparkling

new sets from the RAM represent an appropriate celebration of this critical element of Australian economic, social and cultural

progress.

A masterful example of this

groundbreaking technique, the market for

full-colour coins alone will wipe out this tiny limited edition. With the bigger-than-crown-size 45.60mm flan providing an ideal venue, the Mint’s new Year of the Rabbit

design looks tremendous embellished with glorious full-colour. The sheer quality of the coin will also ensure great interest from anyone who appreciates the power of modern minting. When you take the increasing number of Lunar coin collectors into

account, it’s not hard to envisage a quick-fire sell-out of the tiny

Australian allocation – especially given the great affordability of the Mint’s Official Issue Price.

Fantastic value-for-money at just A$78, and beautifully presented within an official Mint case, this eye-catching precious metal coin is not only a fine addition to any Australian collection – it’s also the perfect Year of the Rabbit gift for anyone born in 1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987 or 1999.

Of the great variety of new 2011 Year of the Rabbit coins, this stunning Australian legal tender release may well be the most popular. A compelling fusion of quality, colour, presentation and – most of all –

value, it will be pursued by crown collectors, colour coin enthusiasts and Lunar buyers alike! Alas, with the Mint retaining just 3,800 coins for the

local market, some people are bound to be left disappointed.

Sumptuous, lavish, imposing…these are the words that will instantly spring to mind when you feast your eyes on the extraordinary Year of the Rabbit Gemstone Silver Kilo. The Perth Mint’s use of colour is dramatic, as always, but the addition of a genuine emerald as the rabbit’s eye is a stroke of pure .999 genius.

Among the world’s biggest coins, with the weight and purity guaranteed by the Australian Government, this massive new $30 coin measures a whopping 100.60mm in diameter. Providing abundant space for the Mint’s designers, the broad frame of this Australian legal tender coin carries an impressive design of an adult and a baby rabbit, surrounded by foliage and a tree with a creeper entwined in its branches. The perfect finishing touch to a complex,

yet poignant motif, the adult rabbit’s eye is adorned with a real emerald! Sure to be as popular as its predecessors, especially across Asia, the Mint has resisted the temptation to increase the mintage of this astonishing $30 coin, with just 5,000 to be struck for worldwide distribution.

A striking fusion of precious metal and precious gemstones, this glamorous giant of numismatics is sure to be one of the ‘Coins of 2011’!

One of the great innovations in modern Australian numismatics, the introduction of selective gold-plating to the Perth Mint’s Lunar Series has proved to be extremely popular. The precise application of gold-plating to silver coins is, however, a demanding process, and it is no surprise that the Mint is one of few coin producers around the world to master this pioneering minting technique. Indeed, even the Perth Mint does not issue a great number of gold-plated silver coins each year, making the annual Gilded Lunar issue important for an extremely broad band of collectors. An incredible opportunity for the serious collector or astute investor, the Great Bookie Banknote Hoard comprised a number of extensive consecutive runs – including this sensational run of ten aUnc to Unc £5 notes!

Underpinned by absolutely pristine quality, with every note in original Uncirculated condition, we also secured a large number of 1961 £1 Coombs/Wilson notes from the Great Bookie Banknote Hoard – including this seldom seen consecutive run of ten!

Gambling on the ponies was big business in the 1950s and 1960s, so it is perhaps no great shock that this remarkable banknote hoard included a run of ten consecutive examples of Australia’s highest predecimal denomination – the £10.

Of the first Elizabeth II £5 type, issued by the Commonwealth Bank, this premium grade sequence is, put simply, extraordinarily rare. Consecutive pairs or runs of five are rare enough, but a run of ten predecimal notes in this stunning quality is all but unheard of today –

Virtually never seen on the market, and always snapped up instantly when offered, a run of ten Uncirculated predecimal notes such as this is unquestionably rare. Definitely one to put away for the

With most lost, destroyed or exchanged for the new dollar at the start of decimal currency, the final Australian 10/-, £1, £5 and £10 predecimal banknotes are tough-to-find today in premium grade Uncirculated quality – and undeniably rare as a set of Uncirculated consecutive pairs, as here!

Issued under the auspices of the Reserve Bank of Australia from 1960 to 1965, and carrying the Coombs/Wilson signature combination, this astounding 8-note presentation was secured from one of the most unusual hoard finds of recent times – the Great Bookie Hoard. Compiled during the 1950s and 1960s by an obviously successful country bookmaker – if the size of his stash was anything to go by! – this sensational hoard comprised a treasure trove of predecimal notes. Perhaps most remarkable, the hoard was arrayed with a huge number of immaculate Uncirculated notes, with many consecutive sequences discovered – suggesting that most of these notes came to the bookie either straight from the bank or straight from the pay packet!

We secured as many notes as possible from this gargantuan predecimal

If all Elizabeth II predecimal banknotes are recognised as scarce in top grade – and, of course, they are – then those notes are rarities of the highest order when in consecutive sequence. A landmark opportunity for you to enjoy just such a rarity, we have a consecutive

cache, and have been able to assemble a small number of complete 10/- to £10 consecutive pairs sets. An appetising proposition for any collector, the chance to secure these key ‘last issue’ predecimal types in this format demands serious consideration by eagle-eyed investors as well. Uninterrupted sequences are rare across the spectrum of the predecimal era, with consecutive pairs, runs of five and runs of ten all commanding a premium at auction – especially when found in the outstanding state of preservation seen here!

Struck during the reigns of Maria I and her son, Joao VI, and circulating widely in Australia in the first decades after Settlement in 1788, we are delighted to be able to present this fine selection of Portuguese-Brazil silver coins. A surprisingly affordable, historically fascinating illustration

of the chaotic economic organisation that defined Australia’s early colonial period, they are a natural addition to any Proclamation

Era collection.

Portugal colonised Brazil in 1500, with the South American territory ultimately proving to be a rich source

of material wealth for a country that was,

during this period, a major player in European

politics. The Portuguese coins before you are a case-in-point, with all four types on offer struck in Brazil from

South American silver. As with the coins

of Spain, such as the 8 Reales, the coins of Portugal were accepted worldwide for trade during the 18th and 19th centuries. With

a wide variety of coins circulating in

the colonial economy – from Spain, India, England,

the Netherlands, amongst others – it is no surprise that the highly respected coins

of Portugal would have been gladly accepted

as reliable currency in early Australia.

As historically important as they are beautifully designed, these particular

struck in the years leading up to Brazil’s independence from Portugal, formally achieved in 1822. A great opportunity to secure a single example of this key relic of Australia’s colonial period, or perhaps all four to create a natural set, we have several different Portuguese-Brazil silver types available. Highlighted by the 640 Reis issue struck during the reign of Maria I, who ruled from 1777 to 1816 and is known in Brazil as Maria the Mad, we also have the 640 Reis struck for Joao VI whilst Prince Regent, the 960 Reis of Joao VI as Prince Regent, as well as the 960 Reis struck after Joao took the throne in his own right. In pleasing condition, all four different types are graded from Fine to Very Fine.

Despite the fact that Portuguese-Brazil silver circulated widely in Australia during the first thirty years of the 19th century, coins such as those before you are seldom offered in this country. Excellent value-for-money for such important, historic pieces of Australia’s past, we have just a few examples of each type in stock.

Seldom seen so nice,

Downies secured fifteen examples of this famous Proclamation Era coin from a collector who definitely had an eye for quality. Struck from 1809 to 1830, each of the fifteen coins we acquired is notable for its exquisite state of

preservation. Underpinned by excellent detail in the design, a strong strike and lovely original lustre, we rarely see more impressive examples.

Conservatively graded at Extremely Fine, these important coins were issued during the interrupted reign of Ferdinand VII. King for just a few months in 1808, Ferdinand VII was imprisoned by Napoleon Bonaparte in France until 1813, returning

to the Spanish throne in that year. The Silver 8 Reales of Ferdinand circulated widely during the early colonial era, at the 5/- value ascribed the denomination by the Proclamation of 1800, and approximately twenty of the 300 known examples of the 1813 Holey Dollar are of the Ferdinand type.

A striking tribute to those who served in the conflict – a conflict in which 519 Australian service personnel lost their lives – this unique Australian legal tender type portrays key architectural elements of the Vietnam Forces National Memorial in Canberra. Whilst an impressive, highly distinctive military commemorative, this coin is absolutely crucial to serious decimal collectors. Not issued for circulation and never found in change, the 2003 Vietnam

One of the world’s oldest independent air forces, it was less than a decade after powered flight was first achieved that the concept of Australia’s first Air Force was formed. The establishment of the Central Flying School at Point Cook in 1912 was the spark, and by 1921 the RAAF was born, replacing the WWI Australian Flying Corps. The RAAF’s part in Australia’s defence during WWII was invaluable, and since that time, the service has established a reputation for excellence that is second to none, proudly representing Australia around the globe in many capacities.

From the introduction of the scheme in 1951, until its conclusion in 1972, a total of 287,000 Australian men were called up for compulsory military service, with over 200 National Servicemen killed in action in Borneo and Vietnam. Issued to coincide with the launch of a new National Service Memorial at the Australian War Memorial in September, this official 60th anniversary PNC forms an affordable tribute to the sacrifice of all National Servicemen.

Set upon a beautifully designed envelope, this impressive PNC features a 60c stamp depicting the new memorial, as well as

With a proud equine history, both in everyday life and numismatics, it is apt that Ireland has devoted one of its few annual Silver Proof commemoratives to horses.

Depicting an Irish Hunter – recognised globally as one of the best foxhunting mounts, and also employed for working the land, transport and sport – this magnificent crown-sized sterling silver Proof

harks back to the earliest days

of the Irish Free State. Established

in 1922, following the Anglo-Irish Treaty, the Irish Free State decided early on that it would issue distinctive coins and notes. In 1928, its first coins were issued, including a Half Crown denomination.

Created by Percy Metcalfe – the designer of the unique George V obverse portrait used on the rare 1934-35 Centenary Florin – the 1928 Half Crown featured an Irish Hunter. A coin of immense quality, great beauty and strictly limited availability, the 2010 15€ Horse Silver Proof is defined by a brilliant modern interpretation of Metcalfe’s famous equine design.

The last Irish Silver Proof commemorative of 2009 sold out in five weeks, and similar demand for this new 37mm 24g Silver Proof is anticipated. As a result, we have been granted only a small allocation from the mintage of 15,000 coins – each set in an official case with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Capturing Poland’s rich military history using the power of modern minting, this highly distinctive legal tender commemorative from the Mint of Poland honours the Polish Hussars – the world-famous light cavalry known as the Winged Horsemen. Formed in the 16th century, and defined by elaborate ceremonial wings used on parade, this legendary Polish military outfit forms a dramatic subject for this 32mm x 22.40mm 14.14g sterling silver Proof.

Winged horsemen…

Just 5,000 struck! The race is on! A release of very broad appeal, commanding the attention of racing devotee and collector alike, this flawless coin forms a scintillating celebration of the 200th anniversary of Australia’s first official horse race.

A formative moment in Australian history, our first official race meeting began at Sydney’s Hyde Park on 15 October 1810. Struck to

the Perth Mint’s rigorous Proof quality from .999 silver,

the 40.60mm frame of this eye-catching legal tender coin forms the perfect platform for the superb full-colour portrayal of the victory of the grey gelding ‘Chase’ in the first official Australian horse race.

Very exclusive, the mintage has been set at just 5,000 coins – each housed in a timber case with a numbered Certificate of

One of the most dramatic, most effective applications of full-colour we have seen, this stunning legal tender release forms a most fitting tribute to New Zealand’s world famous All Blacks. Crafted from pure .999 silver, the reverse has been finished in ‘all black’!

A coin of striking contrasts, the reverse of this groundbreaking 40mm $1 combines a pure black background with New Zealand’s iconic silver fern – a key emblem of Kiwi national identity and the trademarked symbol of the All Blacks. However, although the backdrop of the coin looks all black, the application of this state-of-the-art minting technology is much more subtle than that. When the coin is tilted at an angle, three additional black ferns shimmer against the matt black surface!

The very first All Blacks legal tender coin, and an officially licensed All Blacks product, this spellbinding crown-sized $1 is a release of tremendously broad appeal. Obviously a target for the millions of rugby fans across the globe, the 2011 $1 All Blacks 1oz Silver Proof is

JUST yOUr CUP Of TeA…

The venus flytrap – meat-eater in silver!

Providing more than just a pleasant cup of tea, Chamomile is one of the most favoured, most used medicinal plants in a wide variety of countries across the globe – and a fantastic subject for this brilliantly designed, superbly struck full-colour coin!

Sure to mirror the spectacular success of the first coin in the Oddities of Nature Series, this distinctive full-colour Silver Proof from the Mint of Poland pays homage to one of the most fascinating elements of the world’s flora – the Venus Flytrap.

One of only a handful of carnivorous plants on Earth, the Venus Flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) catches and digests animal prey, using its leaf structure to trap unsuspecting insects and spiders. Brilliantly designed and struck to the height of Proof quality, the large 40mm x 40mm 28.28g

Used from Ancient times to the current day, Chamomile provides relief from a wide range of medical complaints, and is officially recognised as a pharmaceutical drug in 26 different countries. Forming a fine tribute to this famous

sterling silver flan captures the slightly unnerving meat-eating tendencies of the Venus Flytrap, with several open ‘mouth traps’ ready to snap shut.

Silver and Niobium – united! A highly sought after element of the 47 Prefecture Coin Series – Japan’s equivalent to the US State Quarters Series – this splendid tribute to the Prefecture of Kochi bears a striking portrait of Japanese national hero, Sakamoto Ryoma.

Born in Kochi, which is found on the smallest of Japan’s four islands, Ryoma is a key

figure in the course of Japanese history. It was Ryoma that masterminded the overthrow of the Tokagawa Shogunate, in an attempt to stabilise Japan

through the installation of a modern government. A sparkling example of Japanese bimetallic coinage, each 26.50mm 500 Yen is struck to immaculate Proof quality, and is set in a Japan Mint case with a Certificate

The LegeNDS Of hOLLyWOOD…eNSHrINed IN pure SIlVer!

A wonderful opportunity to celebrate the celebrity, the talent and sheer pizzazz of movie superstars John Wayne, Ginger Rogers and Clark Gable, we are delighted to unveil the first three coins of the Cook Islands 2010 $5 Legends of Hollywood Silver Proof Collection!

A blazing beginning to what is sure to prove a highly sought after series, these icons of the silver screen are still household names – known across the globe by millions of people, even decades after their respective deaths. Clark Gable (1901-60) was ’The King of Hollywood’ in his heyday, starring in some of the biggest blockbusters of the 1930s, with his most famous film, Gone with the Wind, establishing his eternal fame. Just as deserving of his Royalty tag, John ‘The Duke’ Wayne (1907-79) is considered one of the finest Hollywood actors of all time, appearing in over 150 films, including Stagecoach, The Searchers, The High and the Mighty and True Grit. A star of stage, screen and TV for the best part of the 20th century, Ginger Rogers (1911-95) appeared in more than 70 films, and was most famous for her partnership with Fred Astaire.

Exclusive, eye-catching and beautifully presented, the 2010 $5 Legends of Hollywood Silver Proof Collection is the perfect way to honour these superstars of American popular culture. Struck to the highest quality from sterling silver, the crown-sized 38.61mm flan of each legal tender coin features a recreation of an original

A legal tender issue, the

With the first of the series sold out at the Mint, and the Trafalgar and Hampton Roads tributes sailing to a sell-out, competition for this new coin will be fierce. Attaining a very small allocation of coins – each set in a case with a Certificate of Authenticity – an early order is recommended.

accurate cannon model is a must-have for the military buff. Measuring 75mm in length, and absolutely sensational value-for-money

This was no easy task as, eagerly anticipated worldwide, this diamond-shaped coin joins one of the hottest collector programs on the planet. With its predecessors all sold out at speed, this release was bound to provoke huge demand – and so it proved. Honouring the French vessel, the Richelieu – one of the fastest battleships to

grace the seas, named after Cardinal Richelieu, statesman and advisor to Louis XIII – the mintage of 1,000 was devastated in even faster time than its forerunners!

Depicting the Richelieu upon its 42mm x 42mm flan, and embellished with gold, this dramatic Proof coin is crafted from TWO TROY OUNCES of .999 silver. Set in a case with a Certificate of Authenticity

at a mere A$9.95, this fine replica also forms an intriguing gift.

attesting to the now-exhausted mintage of 1,000, we urge an early order. We have a tiny number of coins available, and, as with the 2007 Yamato, 2008 Missouri and 2009 Bismarck issues, a sell-out is certain.
