OUR HISTORY

The University of the West Indies is the oldest, fully regional institution of higher learning in the Commonwealth

Caribbean. The UWI began at the Mona Campus, Jamaica, in 1948 as a College of the University of London; and in 1962 achieved full University status. The St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago was established in 1961 and in 1963 a third Campus was established at Cave Hill in Barbados. In 2008 The University established a fourth campus – The Open Campus – to better manage and expand multi mode ‐delivery of its programmes.

The seven faculties of The UWI offer a wide range of undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programmes in Food and Agriculture, Humanities and Education, Engineering, Law, Medical and Veterinary Sciences, Science and Technology; and Social Sciences. THE FACULTY OF HUMANITIES & EDUCATION

The Faculty of Humanities and Education came into being on August 1, 1996 and comprises the School of Humanities (formerly Faculty of Arts and General Studies) and the School of Education (formerly the Faculty of Education). The School of Humanities comprises the Department of History, the Department of Literary, Cultural and Communication Studies, the Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics, the Department of Creative and Festival Arts and the Centre for Language Learning.

CENTRE FOR LANGUAGE LEARNING The CLL offers a wide selection of languages: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), English as a Foreign Language, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Yoruba. The centre is equipped with modern facilities and multimedia resources including a self-access facility and interactive whiteboards. The CLL also offers specialised language training in Spanish, French and English as a Second Language to organizations based in Trinidad and Tobago.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Doctorate (PhD) in French/French as a Foreign Language; or, a Doctorate (PhD) in Languages/Language Teaching/Applied Linguistics with a Master’s Degree in

French/ French as a Foreign Language.

At least three (3) years teaching experience at the tertiary level;

Proven curriculum planning; syllabus design and programme coordination experience;

Significant record of publications and scholarly activity;Demonstrable excellent practice of design and/or delivery

of innovative learning-support activities including blended/technology-enhanced/e-learning.

DUTIES OF THE LECTURERLecturer in French with responsibility as Subject Group Leader/Coordinator for French, German, Italian and Portuguese. This means that this position has a teaching and research (French language and French/Francophone cultures and societies) as well as an administrative dimension.

The appointee will teach French language and culture at any level, from Beginners to Advanced, in the non-specialist programme at the Centre for Language Learning, the

language centre of The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago. S/he will undertake related administrative and professional duties and engage in relevant scholarship. This post is a tenure-track position.

REMUNERATION PACKAGE ANNUAL SALARY RANGE LECTURER: Minimum: TT$ 239,544.00 per AnnumMaximum: TT$ 333,456.00 per Annum

(US$1.00 = TT$6.79)

BENEFITS:

Special allowance of 6% of basic salary;Transportation Allowance of TT$3,250.00 per month;Up to five economy class passages plus baggage allowance

of US$3,000.00 (TT$ equivalent) on appointment and normal termination;

Unfurnished accommodation at 10% or furnished at 12½% of basic salary, or housing allowance of 20% of basic salary to staff making own housing arrangements;

UWI contribution of equivalent of 10% of basic salary to Superannuation Scheme;

Annual Study and Travel Grant (available after first year of service); -TT$20,717.00 per annum;
