While many great organizations offer short-term charity-based services, Mission: St. Louis focuses on long-term empowerment. We walk alongside people, empowering them to make changes that will last a lifetime.

Mission: St. Louis is committed to revi-

talizing St. Louis by building lasting re-

lationships with neighborhoods in need.

Through taking time to build relation-

ships first, we seek to restore dignity to

the people who live in now-struggling

communities. We want to serve along-

side the residents of these communi-

ties, empowering them to lead the way

in bringing about lasting change. Our vi-

sion is that every community will be a

safe and nurturing environment for all

individuals and families. We work to re-

alize this vision by addressing the three

vital areas of education, empowerment,

and economic development through our

three core programs Youth Development,

Jobs for Life, and Community Loop.

Education, empowerment, and economic developmentThrough a holistic approach, we seek to transform neighborhoods in St. Louis into safe and nurturing environments for all people.

Our Jobs for Life program works to equip unemployed men with the skills necessary to attain employment and maintain it with long-term success.

Our Jobs for Life program works to equip

unemployed men with the skills neces-

sary to attain employment and main-

tain it with long-term success. This is

accomplished through an 8-week cycle

of classes, internships, and one-on-one

mentoring. Each component of this pro-

gram focuses on skills and personal de-

velopment to support success in the work

place and all areas of a man’s life—emo-

tional/spiritual, social, financial, profes-

sional, and familial. We have had a 70%

graduation rate from this program and

have seen 2/3 of our graduates attain

full time employment and almost half

are furthering their education.

Community Loop offers free home repair

to residents in our neighborhood who

are struggling with physical or financial

restraints. This program seeks to enable

homeowners to remain in their homes

and to ensure safe and healthy living

environments for community members.

Relationships are built by connecting

neighbors and volunteers to facilitate

workdays, ultimately accomplishing vi-

tal home repairs and maintenance. The

goal of Community Loop is to connect

people with each other so that they may

develop relationships, share resourc-

es (e.g. skills, talents, knowledge, time,

money) and build true community in the

process of creating safe living environ-

ments. Last year alone, 723 volunteers

accomplished more than 300 projects

serving more than 3,700 hours.

RESTORING HOMES FOR NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENTS

COMMUNITY LOOP

More than 380 home repairs were accomplished

by 550 volunteers during 6,393 service hours.

Community Loop provided healthy living environ-

ments for 90 senior citizens, helping them to re-

main in their homes.

Through Youth Development programming we target the achievement gap that exists for students in the neighborhoods we serve.

BUILDING ACADEMIC SUCCESS

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

Through Youth Development program-

ming we target the achievement gap that

exists for students in the neighborhoods

we serve. We work to support and build

academic success, while introducing

students to diverse experiences and op-

portunities that are typically not acces-

sible in this neighborhood. We build per-

sonal relationships with these children,

which allows us to better identify road-

blocks to their success and meet each

individual’s unique needs. These efforts

include academic support programs at

three local elementary schools (Adams,

Ford, and Peabody), after-school activi-

ties, tutoring, and a summer camp for

under-resourced youth. Overall, our pro-

gramming and volunteers offered 3,500

hours of enrichment activities for the

children we serve with in the last year.

61% of 3rd and 4th graders evaluated fell into the lowest 10th

percentile in the nation, with 48% of all the students reading

at a kindergarten level or below.

Volunteers spent 470 hours inside the classrooms

of the St. Louis Public System supporting teachers

and directly serving students through the Adopt-A-

Classroom program.

OPPORTUNITY
