Business issues overcome by AX redesign
Parent company integration, needed to communicate with Oracle, introduction of single number
(Case) all systems must reference this, all financials must be by case.
Move to global processing, company now split between US and UK, a single user application
required but background intercompany transactions and transfer pricing put in place.
Specific processes (Finance) now managed centrally by parent company.
Delivery system (PM) to be integrated, reports to include data from both systems.
LD interested in business analytics, budgets, pipeline and profitability for driving the business
and making decisions, parent mostly interested in total financials rather than detailed analysis.

How AX adapted and simplified the process
The system grew from a single company system fully operational to a global
business control system, interacting with other applications directly, without
noticeable change to the end user processes.
We also swapped detailed system data entry forms for a spread sheet that
simply uploaded the data, This allowed project managers to work outside the
system until such time that they were ready to push/pull the data in.
Separation of processes and ownership of tasks became clearer for the
departments across the systems.
Time & Expense entry was clearly defined by a single case number making
communication easier and more effective.
Development in AX was minimal, new features required such as Manage
Invoice were already in the system, we hadn’t needed them before, we just
turned the feature on.
AX surprises me still, it has a lot of functionality, it all seems to be in there
waiting to be used and is easy to modify as required.
