Earning a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) Certificate is a valuable asset, should you choose to take this career  path. To accomplish your goal of becoming a certified MCSE requires dedication, but it provides you with the skills and expertise that will put you one step ahead of the rest. MCSE certification is a recognized credential throughout the information systems industry. MCSEs provide advanced technical support for businesses and consumers that utilize Windows Server 2003. Some of the specific jobs available as a certified MCSE and their respective duties include systems and network analysts. In a systems position, you will be responsible for researching, planning and advising which software applications an organization should use. Expertise and careful analysis is required to perform this job effectively and to ensure that the software you choose fits the requirements of the business. On the network side, analysis of network solutions is vital in helping a company establish their system infrastructure. Other positions as an MCSE include network and system engineers and technical consultants. These jobs involve managing an organization's networks in addition to planning, designing and implementing solutions for products operating on the Windows system. Oftentimes, the engineers are also responsible for developing the backup and security functions within an organization. The Microsoft certification process is intense and demanding but well worth the effort. The technology market suggests that the demand for MCSEs will continue for years, and you do not have to obtain a computer science degree or any other degree to qualify for MCSE certification. In order to complete Microsoft certification, you must pass a total of seven exams in any order you choose, which are offered at many trade schools and community colleges. The exams are broken down as follows: There are four exams on networking systems, one exam on client operating systems, one exam on design and one elective exam. The four exams involving networking systems are all required and are: Managing and Maintaining a Windows Server 2003 Environment; Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Windows Server 2003  Network Infrastructure; Planning and Maintaining a Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure; and Planning, Implementing, and Maintaining a Windows Server 2003 Active Directory Infrastructure. The single exams in the other categories can be chosen from a variety of tests. Courses to prepare for the exams can be taken through independent tutorials or several continuing education schools. Programs are offered online, or you can order the materials for self-directed study. Once you pass the exams, the certification never expires. The sooner you study and pass the exams, the sooner you can start your career as an MCSE.
