Looking for a multi-functional soil culti-vator? A tool that can not only shallow stubble cultivate and carry out primary soil tillage, but also topsoil deep loosen? If so, then AMAZONE, with the Centaur tine & disc combination cultivator offers the ideal solution in working widths of 3 m, 4 m and 5 m!

It is easy to be convinced just how effi ci-ently and reliably the Centaur, even under the heaviest of operating conditions, in-tensively mixes together last year’s crop residues and soil. Thanks to the four- stagger tine arrangement and the large underframe clearance you can work without interuption, blockage-free – and at a reduced diesel consumption.

Centaur Super, 5 m working width

Four rows of offset tines with a tine spacing of

200 mm in combination with a 2-row compact

disc harrow unit characterise the design of the

Centaur Super. The tasks of reconsolidation,

depth control and road transport are assumed

by the wedge ring tyre unit. From choice the

Centaur Super can be equipped with front guide

or support wheels.

Depth control

Optimum depth control – perfect

teamwork of wedge ring tyre unit

and front guide or support wheels

The main frame carries the 4 rows of tines. Tine

spacing of 200 mm ensure full area loosening and

intensive cultivation of the soil. The high frame

(1050 mm) combined with the special offset tines

guarantees the blockage-free passage of material,

even in the presence of large amounts of straw.

The Centaur depth guidance is via

800 mm wedge ring tyres to the

rear and in the front via a choice

of guide or support wheels. If the

Centaur is fi tted with guide wheels,

these also aid stability. The unit

itself is depth-controlled in the lower

links of the tractor.

When the Centaur is equipped with

the twin-tyred support wheels for

depth control then the Centaur is

carried fully at the front via the

support wheels with the lower link

arms of the towing vehicle free

fl oating. In unusual cases, by lifting

the lower link arms, a major portion

of the support load can be trans-

ferred directly onto the tractor rear

axle to improve traction. Wide sup-

port wheels are also available for

use with light soils.

The working depth is adjusted using

standard equipment in the form of

swivelable spacers. A simple and

ingenious solution. The trailing disc

unit is automatically adjusted at the

same time when the working depth

is changed.

Share types

Stubble share, 170 mm

Unishare110 mm

Narrow share, 50 mm

Stubble share, 220 mm

Vario-Clip quick change system – for

toothless, simple share exchange

In different operation areas that need a variety of

share tyres then the Vario-Clip quick change system

is recommended.

The share holder is fi xed to the tines allowing the

share tip to be simply exchanged without tools.

The new tine with its integrated overload safety device

can be used down to a working depth of 35 cm. Two

horizontal springs keep the tine at the depth – only

with a load of more than 500 kg does the tine defl ect

returning automatically into the initial position again.

Compared with usual tines the special pivot socket

allows for 3-dimensional defl ection. Side forces are

therefore also no longer a problem. A large frame

height of 1050 mm guarantees blockage free operation.

Inversion share, 75 mm

Stubble share, 170 mm

Narrow share, 55 mm

The different share systems allow operation from

shallow stubble working to deep top soil loosening.

For a quick and fl exible share change the Vario-Clip

quick change system is available. The well-known

and proven Vario Clip system is available to Centaur

customers for fast and fl exible share changes.

The mixing does it

The wedge ring roller re-consolidates the soil in

strips ensuring a good capillary water draw yet

the surface soil structure remains intact allowing

rainwater to drain through. A gaseous exchange

is maintained within the top aerobic soil layer

providing the important preconditions for the

straw rotting process.

Perfect in the rear:The wedge ring tyre roller

The 4 and 5 m Centaurs are folded hydraulically

to less than 3 m width for safe road transport. The

top speed for road transport when combined with

a pneumatic braking system is a rapid 40 km/h.

Mixing, crumbling and levelling –

the trailing disc harrow unit

The twin-row compact disc harrow in the Centaur

Super levels, crumbles and thoroughly mixes the

soil. In this way the surface straw cover is consid-

erably reduced and additional organic material is

incorporated. In heavy soils the proportion of fi ne

soil generated is increased thanks to the improved

crumbling effect.

Both these points are imperative pre-conditions for

later successful sowing operations. The 460 mm

diameter discs, with their maintenance-free, oil-

immersed disc bearings are mounted with rubber

sprung buffer blocks and are thus protected

against overload. When changing the working

depth of the tines the operational intensity of the

discs is maintained automatically. To reset the unit,

the rows of discs can be readjusted separately.

Testing carried out on the Centaur

in collaboration with the DLG Test

Centre in Gross-Umstadt demon-

strated very favourable consump-

tion fi gures, compared with using

a plough.

Depending on individual site

con ditions, a working depth of

15 cm resulted in fuel consump-

tion of approx. 8.0 – 9.0 litres per

hectare. When working at plough

depth (> 20 cm) the fuel consump-

tion rises to about 13 – 14 l/ha.

For wearing costs and repairs

3 – 3.50 EURO/ha should be

allowed.

Tested on your behalf – fuel consumption

and running costs

During the development of any new machine it is of

utmost importance that any fi ndings concerning the

longevity of the components are gained as soon as

possible and through normal operation in the fi eld this

would take too long.

This is why AMAZONE has built an extensive “torture

track” at their Leipzig factory for utilisation by all soil

tillage implements. Covering the size of 9.000 sqm,

the area is divided into concrete, road metal and

meadowland.

Only after a damage-free four week longevity test

on the torture track is the machine ready for series

production.
