Covid-19 company impact

I was in my motorhome listening to the news when they reported the first cases of Covid-19 in the UK. It was 16th March. How the world has changed since then.

The whole team at Metalliform, Arena Stadia and Fisher Plastics stepped up to the plate and faced the challenges this presented.

The factory closed on 23rd March 2020 and reopened on the 18th May 2020. During this time almost all staff were furloughed however, we had teams marking out social distancing, signage and obtaining PPE etc.

I cannot thank all of our staff enough for the magnificent effort they have put in for dealing with this very difficult situation.

Humanity will beat this pandemic and valuable lessons will be learnt by us all.

We‘re now back up and running, order intake has picked up and we’ve had a great reaction from customers with Arena obtaining sizeable orders for A.F.C. Wimbledon (£391,000) and Boston F.C. (£75,000).

To all our staff, customers and stake holders, we hope you stay safe and keep well.

Ben Hicks and the team in Lower Metal Work have improved production output in two areas:

• CSM Bender - the original output WSM 1 Foot rest 150 produced per hour.

• CSM Bender - 25 Series stool frame 150 produced per hour.

Ben worked with the team on capacity improvements and on investigation he changed the components to an alternative bender, this resulted in an impressive 250 QTY increase per hour in production.

House keeping improvements

There have been continuous improvements made by the team at Fishers to

the house keeping of the factory. Re-painting of the factory surface allowed for a clear and tidy working environment.

Using the 5s methodology the team re-organised the location of the tool storage area.

Both progress improvements have allowed for a better working environment for all employees.

Cleaning an area with normal household disinfectant after someone with suspected Coronavirus (COVID-19) has left will reduce the risk of passing the infection on to other people.Wear disposable or washing-up gloves and aprons for cleaning. These should be double-bagged, then stored securely for 72 hours then thrown away in the regular rubbish after cleaning is finished.Using a disposable cloth, first clean laminate, frame and chair surfaces with warm soapy water. Then disinfect these surfaces with the cleaning products you normally use. Pay particular attention to frequently touched areas and surfaces, such as table tops and chair surfaces.If an area has been heavily contaminated, such as with visible bodily fluids, from a person with Coronavirus (COVID-19), use protection for the eyes, mouth and nose, as well as wearing gloves and an apron.Wash hands regularly with soap and water for 20 seconds, and after removing gloves, aprons and other protection used while cleaning.

Covid-19 precautions

The protection of all employees, customers & stakeholders from Covid-19 is our top

priority at the Metalliform Group. A risk assessment at both sites has identified control measures to be implemented to prevent exposure. The main controls implemented are:

• Social distancing: markings on the flooring and within the canteen area were implemented to encourage employees to keep a 2 metre distance from each other.

• We have increased the cleaning of communal areas and cleaning equipment is available for all staff to use.

• Staggered start, finish, and break times to prevent congregation of employees.

• Additional sanitising/hand cleaning stations have been situated around the vicinity.

• The use of barriers and protective screens have been applied to work stations to separate work areas between employees.

• The provision of washable cloth face coverings have been provided.

• We have a reduction of visitors/contractors to site.

• Specific control measures are in place for delivery drivers to follow.
