DISCUSSION:

Influenza-like Illness is an acute disease of the respiratory tract characterized by fever, headache, myalgia, prostration, coryza, sore throat and cough. In our Municipality the number of cases is high due to its climatic condition wherein Licuan-Baay is one of the upland municipalities in the Province of Abra with cool temperature. Changes in weather conditions also caused an increase in number of cases during the months of June to August, 2012 because of the rainy weather. One of the main reasons why there was an increase in the number of cases was that the Municipal Epidemiology Surveillance Unit just started sending reports to Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit and Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit Last Quarter of CY 2011.

A total number of 719 cases were reported by Barangay Epidemiology Surveillance Units from January 01 to August 31, 2012. Majority of the cases were females (371). Fifty one percent (51%) of cases belonged to the 0-15 yr age group due to their higher susceptibility to illness. Barangay Nalbuan has the highest incidence rate with 267 cases.
