Message from the Headteacher Key Values: Innovaon, Confidence, Aspiraon, Respect, Enthusiasm Dear Parents This week former pupil Niall Ubhi came into school to talk to potenal medical applicants about the process, and what is required to gain a place in medical school. Niall leſt HCS last August and has almost completed his first year in medical school. It is remarkable that our pupils are so willing to give back to the school; it is this balance between giving and taking that I believe sets HCS pupils apart. A similar thought came to me earlier in the month when the pupils took part in the £10 challenge. Whilst any Head would be proud to lead a school that achieves such entrepre- neurial success, the real pride was in the feed- back I received from parents and staff. So many people came up to me to comment on how the HCS pupils had shown real interest in their business ideas and encouraged others to do well throughout the challenge. For me, this speaks of the success and valuethat we believe is one of the defining charac- teriscs of our school. HCS pupils understand that educaon is not just about achievement, it is also about how one uses that opportunity for the benefit of the world around us. I for one believe that our community, our country, our world needs more young people with this atude. This characterisc of HCS pupils becomes more apparent with every week that passes. This year I have seen the ambion and passion of Prep and Senior School pupils working together to find ways to engage with and learn from older members of our locality, with heart-warming results. Pupils are challenged; they imagine, consult, take advice, plan, take measured risks and deliver. They become independent and experienal learners, confident but not arrogant, growing through the friendship and advancement of others. Those I know who recruit to college, university and employment are looking for individuals who understand what they can give as well as what they can receive. Friends I would personally like to give my thanks to the Friends Commiee who today have organised a very successful lunch event in Branngham. Dear Parents

This week former pupil Niall Ubhi came into school to talk to potential medical applicants about the process, and what is required to gain a place in medical school. Niall left HCS last August and has almost completed his first year in medical school. It is remarkable that our pupils are so willing to give back to the school; it is this balance between giving and taking that I believe sets HCS pupils apart.

A similar thought came to me earlier in the month when the pupils took part in the £10 challenge. Whilst any Head would be proud to lead a school that achieves such entrepre-neurial success, the real pride was in the feed-back I received from parents and staff. So many people came up to me to comment on how the HCS pupils had shown real interest in their business ideas and encouraged others to do well throughout the challenge.

For me, this speaks of the ‘success and value’ that we believe is one of the defining charac-teristics of our school. HCS pupils understand that education is not just about achievement, it is also about how one uses that opportunity for the benefit of the world around us. I for one believe that our community, our country, our world needs more young people with this attitude.

This characteristic of HCS pupils becomes more apparent with every week that passes. This year I have seen the ambition and passion of Prep and Senior School pupils working together to find ways to engage with and learn from older members of our locality, with heart-warming results. Pupils are challenged; they imagine, consult, take advice, plan, take measured risks and deliver. They become independent and experiential learners, confident but not arrogant, growing through the friendship and advancement of others.

Those I know who recruit to college, university and employment are looking for individuals who understand what they can give as well as what they can receive.

Friends

I would personally like to give my thanks to the Friends Committee who today have organised a very successful lunch event in Brantingham. Thank you to all those who attended and to Clarins for their fabulous demonstration.

Hull 10k - Running for Hope

On Sunday 18 June a number of staff and pupils will be taking part in the Run For All Hull 10K in memory of Hope Rooms who sadly passed away in Febru-ary 2016. The date is a particularly spe-cial one as Hope would have celebrated her 16th birthday and it is also Father's day. Last year we raised over £2000 for Candlelighters, the charity who help children with cancer and their families. This year we aim to raise even more. Your support in achieving our goal is most appreciated, you can donate

Fashion Show

The Friends Committee are working extremely hard to put

together a range of events for our school community. They

are raising funds to support a whole school treehouse, a Sen-

ior School gym and a number of other smaller bid requests

across the whole school. We welcome any feedback on past

or future events and appreciate your continued support. If

you are interested in joining our committed group please

email Jo Dunn on [email protected] or

alternatively the Friends on [email protected].

We would also ask that if you would not wish to join the com-

mittee itself but would be able to give a couple of hours of

time adhoc to set up for our events, this would also be appre-

ciated and is where the committee requires your support the

most. We hope to see you at the fashion show on May 12th.
