ATTENDANCE: School attendance this week is 95% which is above national average. Well done to classes 6K who had the highest attendance at 100%
Improving Our School We are delighted with the start the children have made to this academic year in terms of their attendance, attitude to learning and their conduct around school. They are a real credit to your families and we are extremely proud of them.
As in previous years, we have set out our main school priorities for this academic year. We would like to share the main areas of focus with you as detailed below. This information can also be found on the school website.
We were delighted with the number of our Year 6 children who applied for the positions of House Captain and Sports Captain for this academic year. The standard of application was excellent and it was difficult for the teaching teams to select the captains. Congratulations to our captains for 2021-22:

We are having an own clothes ‘mufti day’ on Thursday 18th November for all pupils. If possible, Friends of Kew Woods would be grateful for a donation of chocolates, sweets, wine etc to be used to make up ham-pers/prizes for a Xmas raffle. Also, if you are able to donate any vouchers (restaurants/food places/ beauty salons etc) these would make excellent prizes, please ask your friends, family work places etc. T he funds raised by Friends of Kew Woods are used to purchase additional items for the children. Recently, the lighting and curtains used in performances were purchased by FOKW. Many thanks for your continued support.
We will be holding a Parents’ Evening on Tuesday 9th / Wednesday 10th November this term. Appointments can be made via the school app. If you have any queries regarding booking appointments please contact the office. Likewise, if you would prefer a telephone call rather than coming into school please arrange this via the office. We hope the ap-pointments will provide important information about how the children have settled in to their new classes, their progress to date and targets for the term. We look forward to seeing parents on these evenings.
Due to Parents’ Evening on 9th / 10th November, after school clubs and intervention session will be cancelled that evening.
We would like to thank all of the parents who applied to be a Parent Governor at Kew Woods Primary School. We are pleased to inform you that Charmaine Tarring has been elected to this position.

Trust Poetry Competition We were invited to participate in a poetry competition with the other Southport Learning Trust schools (Maghull High, Stanley High and Greenbank High). The children were asked to write a poem inspired by nature. We were delighted to announce in assembly Daisy as our school winner, with Zara (Y5), Lottie (Y4) and Libby (Y6) runners-up.
We were also thrilled to receive the news that Daisy’s entry, the Secret Garden, was given 2nd place across all of the Trust schools. Well done to everyone who participated in this competition.
Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic day of forensic science at Christ the King High School, partaking in many challenges, including microscopy, chromatography and investigating ph levels. By the end of the day the crime was successfully solved by all 60 detectives!
Super Scientists!
