The Belledune Port Authority would like to extend sincere congratulations to the newly elected mayors and council members in our region. We look forward to combining our efforts toward the growth and prosperity of Northern New Brunswick. Over the past month we have been diligently going out and introducing ourselves to local mayors and community groups. In the coming months, we hope to increase those numbers by hosting various groups here at the Port. We are firmly committed to being a good neighbor and a viable working partner with our local communities. In order to create the best relationships, we believe it is important that these communities know who we are, what we do and become familiar with our future plans. In our next publication (Fall Issue), we will be launching our new business plan for the economic growth of the Port and in turn our region. Our aim is to set aggressive targets, pursue a more diverse commodity portfolio and be as competitive as possible in the global market. To ensure the growth and prosperity of the PBA we must evolve and grow according to the demands of the industry. We look forward to a bright and prosperous second half of the year and we wish everyone a safe and happy summer. We just wrapped up a successful Annual General Meeting held at the Belledune Recreation & Cultural Centre on June 9. As President & CEO, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the guests and stakeholders that attended. We were happy to welcome the many local community leaders and mayors who fully support our plans to grow the local economy and region as a whole. In addition to our usual AGM formalities, the objective of this event was also to showcase that economic development is about collaboration. We recognized the valuable contribution of our Terminal Operators and potential future partners and we acknowledged the immense support of our Board of Directors, lead by Mr. Barry Kyle. We also fully recognize how fortunate we are to have a great network of support and interest in developing the Port of Belledune—This is what makes this community such a wonderful place to live, work, invest and visit. Thank you for being a part of this team!

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT & CEO

ANOTHERGREAT YEAR!

The Belledune Port Authority would like to extend sincere congratulations to the newly elected mayors and council members in our region. We look forward to combining our eorts toward the growth and prosperity of Northern New Brunswick.

Over the past month we have been diligently going out and introducing ourselves to local mayors and community groups. In the coming months, we hope to increase those numbers by hosting various groups here at the Port. We are rmly committed to being a good neighbor and a viable working partner with our local communities.

Helping with Healthcare

Since 1992, the Friends of Healthcare Foundation has been helping to improve healthcare at the grassroots level.

“The Foundation is a non-prot organization dedicated to raising funds to maintain and improve services oered at the Campbellton and Restigouche Regional Hospitals and associated services at the Jacquet River and the Dalhousie Health Centers,” explains the Foundation’s executive director Jean-Luc Landry. Funds go toward the purchase of medical equipment, education and research.

“Donations are critical in reaching our objectives allowing us to purchase much required medical equipment for this community,” he says. “The Port of Belledune’s donation of $2,500.00 is the highest single donation the Foundation receives and is very important for maintaining and improving our healthcare for our population.” The Foundation is 100 percent local and all funds go toward achieving its objectives.

The Multicultural Association Chaleur Region (MACR) is a welcoming hand reaching out to new residents arriving from abroad.

“MACR is a non- prot organization dedicated to welcoming newcomers from other countries,” says Chantal Vortmann-Rieswick, outreach, integration and training. “In addition to hosting a full program of multicultural activities throughout the year, MARC provides settlement, integration and employment services for newcomers to Canada.”  “Our region is experiencing signicant demographics shifts and economic challenges. We, at MACR, are focused on growing our community, growing the economy and for that we need newcomers,” she says.

They promote various cultural activities and help foster cross-cultural bonds. People interested in multiculturalism canbecome members for a small fee. There are 410 members who help as volunteers. The Port of Belledune has proudly contributed to the Association.

Having to travel long distances for specialized, life-saving care is dicult for sick children. To help, the North Shore Shriners Club makes a dollar go a long way.

“We put on a country music show at ESN in Bathurst to help raise money for the Shriner kids, namely those with dierent bone problems as well as with burns,” says Derek Knowles, member and event organizer. They hold a clinic in Bathurst with a specialist from Montreal. “If the diagnosis means having to go to Montreal for surgery, we pay the transportation for the child and one parent.”

They have helped upwards of 1,100 children through the initiative to which the Port of Belledune contributed $1000. “We appreciate the Port for being such a generous supporter as do the children.”
