Belledune’s New Municipal Council
On May 9, 2016, voters in Belledune elected their newest Village Council, seeing only one
returning councillor, along with a new slate of representatives.
Elected as Mayor is Belledune is Joe Noel, a former councillor, who served as mayor of the
village from 2001 to 2004. Also returning to a position on council in Ward 2 is Nick
Duivenvoorden, who served as councillor and mayor, respectively, from 2001 to 2012.
Incumbent Tracy Culligan was acclaimed in Ward 3. New to municipal politics is Paul
Arseneault, elected in Ward 1, and both Councillors-at-large, Lilliane Carmichael and Sandenn
Killoran.
Outgoing council bid their final farewell on Tuesday, May 24th, before the incoming council was
officially sworn-in before family, friends, and community members.
Despite the majority of New Brunswick's municipalities seeing a drop in voter turnout (at
34.55%), the turnout in Belledune was far above average at approximately 75%.

Student Summer Employment
This is a reminder that summer student applications for employment with the
Village should be received here at the Municipal Office by June 3rd, 2016. Please
make sure you have a covering letter and resume in by that date. Students must be
enrolled full time in school and returning to school next year. We ask that you have
a letter of acceptance for next year as proof that you are returning to school; this
is required for the funding we get from the provincial and Federal governments.

PROVINCIAL FIRE BAN IN AFFECT – 2016
New Brunswick's forest fire season officially began in the month of April and the entire province remains under a burn ban.
The Department of Natural Resources is urging residents to check the burn line daily at 1-866-458-8080 or visit the forest fire watch site online.
DNR wildfire prevention officer Roger Collette says there are many fuels in the spring to start fires.
"At this time of the year, there is no green. The grass is still dead and so it's quite dry," he notes.
With little precipitation recently and the fact the snow has melted over most of the province, Collette says the brown, dry landscape left behind means this is a dangerous time for fires.
Message from Bathurst/Belledune RCMP – RSC3 – 2016-05-27
The Bathurst/Belledune RCMP would like to advise the community of the following:
Reporting Offences When They Happen
We would like to remind citizens to report offences when they happen, and not wait minutes, hours or
days after the incident occurred. If you call us right away, we will respond right away.
Example: You spot two youths on ATVs and they are driving around the village or in a park - you need to
call right away so we can make an immediate patrol. There have been recent instances where youths on
ATV’s have caused property damage in the Belledune area; however, we only hear of it the next day.
The rule of thumb is if you see something, call us. We don’t necessarily want your name, we just want
your information.
Water Safety – Boating
The ice is gone; it’s time to enjoy the waters of the Baie de Chaleur. We would like to remind you to
practice safe boating in the bay and on the local rivers. Always ensure to wear a safety vest or have one
nearby. Remember, when dusk hits, the sun disappears quickly, so plan ahead to avoid being caught in
the dark out on the water.
Finally, with the beautiful weather approaching and the increase of outdoor parties and activities, please
ensure to have a plan when going out. Make sure you have a designated driver for every night out, and
also have a backup plan, such as staying over, calling a friend or family member, or just abstaining from
alcohol. Drinking and driving is a crime. Have fun this summer, but know your limits.
If you require assistance that is urgent dial 911; if not urgent or just have a question call us any time at
1-888-506-RCMP (7267).
Sgt. Benoit Jolette
