Mercedes-AMG GT S DTM Safety Car Revealed The Mercedes-AMG GT S has been named a DTM Safety Car. Replacing the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series coupe, the Mercedes-AMG GT S DTM Safety Car will make its debut at the Lausitzring Speedway this weekend and will closely resemble the road-going production model. The AMG GT S is also a safety car in Formula One and just like in that series, the DTM Safety Car has been modified for safety-car duty. Modifications include a low-profile light bar mounted to the carbon fiber air scoop on the roof in addition to a front splitter and rear wing from the model's optional Aerodynamics Package. On the inside, the DTM Safety Car has been outfitted with racing seats, six-point harnesses, a flat-bottom steering wheel and special radio equipment. All signaling functions on the light bar are performed by fast- responding, energy-efficient LEDs. The headlights and tail lights also have a stroboscopic effect that makes the car even more conspicuous when it's on the track. Driving the AMG GT S will be Jürgen Kastenholz, who will take to the track when dangerous situations occur. Expect to see safety cars from Audi and BMW during the DTM season as well.
