Trying. A multi-dimensional word. It can be giving a go at something for the first time or doing your best
at something you've done many times. It can be a very irritating individual or a hard to endure situation. It can
be something (or more likely someone) that is grating to the nerves. Seeing that delicate crocus pop up through
the snow, we think - "It's trying so hard. Come on now, we're rooting for you." Are we not actually cheering our
own inner strength when cheering for the crocus and the struggle only we perceive. The crocus is living in the
only world it knows. It is not aware of the struggle we see. It is through trying times with people that try our
patience that we try our best and reap the reward of realizing the strength to flourish in the only world we know.

The Last Nude, by Ellis Avery
Inspired by real events in Art Deco painter Tamara de Lempicka's history,
"The Last Nude" is a tour de force of historical imagination. Avery gives
the reader a tantalizing window into a lost Paris, an age already vanishing as
the inexorable forces of history close in on two tangled lives.
