PREP 2020 ENROLMENT FORMS: If you have a Prep student starting next year, please ensure you have submitted the Enrolment Form and relevant documents as we are in the process of allocating students to grades. If you have not returned your forms, please do so urgently. If you enrolment is not submitted and complete, your child may not be able to commence school on the first day next year.

GRADES 2020: Teachers devote many hours to the development of new grades, taking many factors into consideration. If you have any specific requests, please put them into writing to the Principal marked Confidential and hand into the office by Friday 1st November. All requests will be given due consideration. Please note that only requests received by this date will be considered.

To assist with this process, we ask any families/students who are moving to another area and not returning to Melton South Primary School in 2020 to notify the school office as soon as possible. This information is critical for class structure and staffing.

CHICKENPOX: We have had a reported and confirmed case of chickenpox in the school. Chickenpox symptoms can take 10 to 21 days to show after infection. The most infectious time is one to two days before the rash appears, but continues to be infectious until all the blisters have crusted over. Symptoms of chickenpox is a rash of red itchy spots that turn into fluid filled blisters, they then crust over to form scabs. The spots are most likely to appear on the face, ears, scalp, under the arms, on the chest, stomach and trunk area and arms and legs. Some children may also have a mild fever and generally feel unwell.

STATEMENTS: Account statements were sent home with students last week. Please note that the statement contains your personalised BPAY details should you wish to make any payments online instead of having to come into the school office.

NAPLAN RESULTS: NAPLAN results for students in grades 3 and 5 are now available for parents to collect from the office. Parents are advised we will not be sending home the reports with the children. PARKING AROUND THE SCHOOL: As the school is growing larger every week, we ask all parents and carers to be very cautious when dropping and picking students up. We are aware of the congestion in the streets and in the car parks around the school and ask that everyone obeys the road rules and is patient with others.

DOGS POLICY: Melton South Primary School has a dog policy. Dogs are not permitted on school grounds at all with the exception of specially trained dogs to enhance mobility or disability. We do promote Responsible Pet Ownership to educate students in the knowledge and understanding needs for responsible pet ownership and animal care. This applies to all school events, including discos and Let It Shine Expo.

PERSONAL PROPERTY: Is often brought to school by students, staff and visitors. This can include mobile phones, bicylces, scooters, electronic games, calculators, toys, musical instruments, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises. The department does not hold insurance for personal property brought to school and it has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property. We advise that should your child bring their bike or scooter to school it is advisable to also send a lock with them as we have unfortunately had things stolen from the bike shed.

P.E. NEWS

AFTER SCHOOL SPORTS: Applications for the After School Sports Program are open and the program will be commencing in Week 3, Monday 21st and Thursday 24th October. The sports this term will be Field Hockey and Touch Rugby.

WALK TO SCHOOL: Walk to School is on so get those walking shoes out or riding helmets on. The more you walk, ride or scoot the more opportunities you give yourself to be entered into win a prize.

Attending school every day is vital for students of all ages to fully achieve. As a parent/guardian: Commit to sending children to school every day. Make sure children arrive at school on time. Inform the school when they are away, sending medical

certificates and other evidence of genuine absence. Consider catching-up on missed work.

Dear Parents/ Caregivers,

This years' Djerriwarrh Festival will be bigger and better than the previous years! The theme this year is:

"Melton City, Much More than meets the Eye. Show us what you are made of." We are going to take this opportunity to showcase just how great Melton South Primary School is!

The Parade is on Saturday, 9th November, High Street, Melton with an 11am start. Walking groups like our school, are asked to be there between 10.00 and 10.15. The Outstanding School Award will be given to the most imaginative, colourful and innovative. We need to know numbers fairly soon, so please see your classroom teacher for a Permission Form and return it as soon as possible. Parents/Carers and Students that are interested, are invited to attend some Workshops in the Art Room on the 12 th and 19th of September at 3:30pm to create props and costumes for the parade. If you have any ideas, questions or would like to help, please contact Ms Cohen (Prep E, Room 19) or Ms Wright (2E, Room 5B). It’s going to be an exciting day, so we hope to see you there!

BOOK CLUB: Book club orders forms have been sent home this week. Please return all orders with payment by Tuesday 22nd October. For your information, parents can order and pay for their book club orders online. Refer to your book club order form for more details.

SCHOOL BANKING IS EVERY THURSDAY AT MELTON SOUTH PRIMARY SCHOOL

SCHOOL HATS: Melton South Primary School is an accredited member of The Australian Cancer

Foundation and therefore follows the required regulations in regard to SunSmart behaviour.

As part of our school’s SunSmart Policy, all students and staff are required to wear school broad

brimmed sunhats from 1st September through to April 30th next year. Hats are available from the

school office for $12.00 each.

PREP 2020 ENROLMENTS We are now finalising enrolments for 2020. If you have a child turning 5 on or before the 30th

April, 2020, please ensure you have returned your child’s completed enrolment form.

This information allows us to commence planning for the coming year and it is vital that we es-

tablish student numbers for 2020 as early as possible.
