Mr. Power - 7 & 8th Grade Math; 8th Grade Religion● I will be married to my wife Maria 32 years later this year. ● I have 3 sons who are 23, 25 & 27 and a daughter who is
22!● This is my 14th year of teaching and before this I used
math in my previous career everyday.● My approach to teaching math is as a problem solving
endeavor. My goal is that kids can apply the problem solving techniques learned in my class to all areas of their lives.
● I am a lifelong Catholic and I have been teaching Religious Education for the past 5 years. The more I teach these Children of God the more I love my faith.

These are the books we use for Math class. Besides the hardcover version of the books there is an electronic version of the books that can be found here: https://bim.easyaccessmaterials.com/ goto common core 2014 and just click on your child’s book.
Your child should have a graphing notebook and a calculator at every class.
Kevin Copp-8th Grade ELA and Social Studies-I grew up in the Chicagoland area and attended Providence College in Rhode Island.
-This is my third year teaching at St. Agnes of Bohemia.
-In ELA, we will examine stories as journeys and imagine ourselves as travelers learning about a new world.
-Our focus in Social Studies will be learning how history impacts our current lives.
-Please encourage your children to read often! Readers are leaders!
-My favorite book is One Hundred Years of Solitude!
Expectations and Materials for 8th Grade ELA and Social Studies
-We will read between 4-6 novels together as a class. These novels will be passed out to students.
-Students should always have an independent reading book. Our class library has many books, but students are encouraged to find their own from a local library or bookstore.
-Please stay informed of your child’s progress through PowerSchool, Google Classroom, and Class Dojo.
JP Oswald 7/8th Science & 7th Religion -I am originally from Baton Rouge, LA. I moved to Chicago after leaving the Army and graduating from Louisiana State University.
-I Live in the Pilsen area with my dog, Nola, and have been a Catholic School teacher since 2015.
-The method that we use in class is to take an inquiry based approach to Life Science, Physical Science, and Earth Science.
-Our goal is to prepare students to be lifelong learners who take a inquiry base to problem solving.
-I am excited to teach Religion and grow together in faith with our students.

Ms. Wells, 7th Grade ELA and Social StudiesEducation and Professional Background:
● B.A. UCLA, Dominican University with a double major in History and Education and a minor in Latin American studies.
● Eight years of teaching experience with the Archdiocese of Chicago and two years as a Reading and Math enrichment specialist.
● Three years experience as an historical researcher and editor for Hayhouse Books.
● I live in the West suburbs with my two sons, Misha and Kiran, and my cat Coco. In my free time, I love to cook, make music and work on various art projects.
ELA & Social Studies Resources
● This year, we will be going mostly paperless for both content areas. Because of this, it is essential that students check in frequently with Google Classroom for digital links and resources.
● If learning from home, have a quality wi-fi connection and a quiet place to study and engage. If learning at school, please bring an affordable set of earbuds.
● We will be utilizing short videos throughout the year for novel studies and our Constitution units.
Electronic ResourcesThis year we will be communicating with families through ClassDojo. It is here where you will get periodic updates into what is going on in your child’s class. Period pictures, little notes about their learning and of course classroom announcements.
The students will be utilizing Google Classroom for their learning. Each day assignments are posted here and turned in here as well. (If you need to have access to your child’s assignments contact your teacher for help.)
Finally, this year we will be changing our school assessments to i-Ready. This is more than a testing sight! Yes, through this site we will monitor your child’s academic progress, but we can do more. With this program we can design extra work that focuses on your child’s weaknesses and helps catch them up to their peers. With as little as 15 minutes of practice per day we can see a 25-40% gain in scores by the end of the year. We are very excited about this tool!
