INVITATION FROM THE CONFERENCE ORGANISING COMMITTEE‘Staying Alive’ is the central theme for Medicines Management 2010 and

we will be showcasing innovation and developments in hospital pharmacy

practice, with particular focus in the areas of chronic disease management

and infectious diseases. A dedicated technician program will feature

speakers from around Australia demonstrating novel approaches and

expanding roles of pharmacy technicians.

We invite all pharmacists, students, pharmacy technicians and health professional colleagues working in medicines management, to submit poster and paper abstracts to be presented at the Medicines Management 2010 Conference. Abstracts may address any aspect of the medicines management pathway and papers will be grouped into the themes listed below.

We also remind you that time spent developing an original paper or poster for presentation at the conference is considered a shpacpd Group 3 activity.

The presentation of innovative pharmacy research is the cornerstone of SHPA conferences, offering the opportunity for researchers to share their important findings, showcase recent advances and updates in hospital pharmacy practice and to encourage collaboration and information sharing within the profession.

Submissions are invited for paper and poster abstracts to be presented at Medicines Management 2010, the 36th SHPA National Conference, being held at the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre from 11–14 November 2010.

Abstracts may address any aspect of the medicines management pathway

the presenting author. If submitting more than one abstract, each abstract should be submitted under the name of the presenting author.

You will have the choice of submitting an abstract for either:

oral presentation only •poster display only •oral or poster presentation•

After certifying that all authors have agreed to the submission of the abstract/s, you will then continue to the Upload Abstract page. Please ensure that your abstract is finalised and has been prepared in accordance with the abstract preparation requirements.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DETAILSAll abstracts must be submitted electronically via the Conference website. Helpful hints on successfully submitting abstracts can be found on the Conference website. You will be asked to complete the presenting author’s contact details, abstract title, proposed type of presentation (oral or poster), the theme, author(s), affiliation details and brief biographical details of

Contributed papers will be strictly limited to a maximum of ten minutes followed by a five minute period for discussion.

Posters will be available for viewing on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 November in the Exhibition Hall. You will be able to set up your poster between 2pm and 5.30pm on Thursday 11 November and they need to be in place by 10am on Friday 12 November at the latest, to be considered by the judging panel.

Whether your submission is accepted or rejected as an oral presentation or poster display will depend exclusively on the quality of the abstract. The abstract must conform to the requirements outlined below to be considered for acceptance. Please note that abstracts not selected for oral presentations may alternatively be offered poster presentations.

ABSTRACT PREPARATION REQUIREMENTSthis work has been published or presented already, please provide details. This is not a criteria for exclusion. All contributed paper and poster presenters are required to register to attend the Conference.

Abbreviations and statistical results 2. should conform with the uniform requirements for manuscripts

submitted to biomedical journals at netlink: www.icmje.org.

Submissions which do not conform will be excluded from consideration. Abstracts sent by fax will not be accepted.

Abstracts should describe work 1. which has not been presented at a previous SHPA national conference. Selection of posters and papers is dependent on the content and presentation of the abstract. If

title – typed in bold, upper and lower case, should be brief and state clearly the nature of the study.

Author – details should not be included on the abstract to allow for blind reviewing.

text – please do not make any mention of the institution or affiliation of the authors in the main body of the text.

Clinical research reports:

Aim – a one sentence statement of the study’s specific objective, unless given in the title.

Methods – a brief statement of the method if pertinent.

results – a summary of the results obtained.

Conclusion – a statement of the conclusions.

It is not satisfactory to state ‘the result will be discussed’.

Case reports:

objective – state why the case is being reported.

Clinical features – these should include the patient’s age, sex, ethnic background, occupation, relevant medical history, presenting problems and diagnosis.

interventions, Case Progress and outcome – these may be presented together or separately.

Conclusions – these should state the lessons learnt from the report.

The presenting author must check 6. the acknowledgement of terms and conditions box when registering and submitting the abstract.
