LINCOLN COUNTY HOSPITAL. - At the quarterlymeeting of the governors, the secretary presented a state-ment showing that the balance due to the treasurer was.81598 2s. 8d. Various suggestions were made with the viewof meeting the steadily increasing deficiency of income, andamong others it was proposed to make a small charge to eachpatient not in actual poverty ; but eventually it was decidedto defer the consideration of the whole subject to a futuremeeting.

SOCIETY FOR RELIEF OF WIDOWS AND ORPHANSOF MEDICAL MEN.-A general meeting of the Society was heldin the rooms of the Royal Medical and Chirurgical Society,Berners-street, on October 26th. The chair was taken bythe President, Sir George Burrows. From the half-yearlystatement read it appeared that .,81298 10s. had been distri-buted among fifty-eight widows, twelve orphans, and fourorphans on the Copeland Fund. The expenses of the halfyear had been £109 14s. 9d. It was announced that thedirectors, having a sufficient sum in hand, had determinedto give a present of =g326 at Christmas to the widows andorphans now receiving grants. During the half year freshapplications had been received from four widows and twoorphans; thirteen members bad died, and seven new

members had been elected. Dr. Harvey Kimpton Owenwas elected a Vice-President in the place of George Cooper,Esq , deceased. A legacy of £500 from Mrs. Mary DavisParker was reported, and also £250 from the executors ofthe late James Graham, Esq. A vote of thanks to thechairman closed the meeting.

COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS, IRELAND.--At a meetingof the Fellows, held last week, two members of the Collegewere admitted to the Fellowship—namely, Dr. StephenMacSwiney, lecturer on Medical Jurisprudence in theCecilia-street School of Medicine, and Dr. Arthur V.
