Again, you complain that the "proceedings seem to beenshrouded in needless obscurity." This is the fault, not ofthe staff, but of the " Committee of Inquiry," whose" impu-tations, privately made, have been enshrouded in needlessobscurity" from members of the staff.Once more, you say "it would be simply obeying the

natural impulse of a keen sense of honour to repudiate inpublic the imputation privately made." It was in obedienceto this impulse that the staff forwarded to you the resolutionwhich had the misfortune to be too curt to secure publicitythrough your columns. It seems to me that "imputationsprivately made" are quite incompatible with "a keen sense ofhonour," and may therefore be safely treated with contempt.

BENJAMIN BARROW, Esq., F.R.O.S., consultingsurgeon to the Royal Isle of Wight Infirmary, justice of thepeace and alderman of the borough of Ryde, has been electedfor the fourth time in succession mayor of that town.

THE eminent Dublin surgeon, Mr. Butcher, haspresented the sum of .81000 towards defraying the cost of alife-boat for the coast of Kerry. The gift is intended toperpetuate the memory of his father, Admiral Butcher, andhis brother, the late Bishop of Meath.

MR. W. WRIGHT, for many years resident medi-cal officer to the Pontefract General Dispensary, was founddead in his sitting-room on Friday in last week. He hadbeen attending his patients during the day as usual. Hewas widely known as an antiquarian.
