Obituary.WILLIAM OGILVIE ROBERTS, ESQ.,
ASSISTANT-SURGEON R.N.
THIS gentleman, lvhose decease took place at Calaba, nearBombay, on the l4tfi of May, was the eldest son of Dr. Roberts,surgeon-dentist, Edinburgh. After obtaining the diploma ofthe Edinburgh College of Surgeons in 1855, he entered theRoyal Navy, and has been almost constantly engaged in foreignservice-in India and China. He was present in the expeditionof Lord Elgin up the Yang-tzse-Kiang river to Hankow, andto his pen the public were indebted for many of the graphicand characteristic descriptions which appeared in the news-papers of events in China during the late war. By his amiabledisposition and ready talents Mr. Roberts had, during his shortcareer, endeared himself to a large circle of friends, by whomhis loss will be deeply regretted. His remains were interredin the burial-ground of Calaba with military honours, and hisbrother officers, in testimony of their esteem, have ordered a
suitable tablet to be erected over his tomb.
