Utilities

Designate a full time MDOT utilities coordinator

• Oversee all aspects of utility coordination, communication, and cooperation during design and construction

• Act as “go to” person for MDOT, utilities, and vendors

Utilize Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE)

• Have SUE provider available during design and construction

• Update current SUE data

• Utilize SUE deliverables effectively with stakeholders

• Expedites conflict resolution

Identify and resolve municipal utility issues

• Early and often involvement of municipal utilities

• Early identification of potential “show stoppers”

• Identify all relocation and proposed new work

• Coordination with stakeholders

Railroads

Form Steering Committee of officials from MDOT

Form a Design Engineering Committee

Provide adequate time for RR coordination in the

MDOT process

• Two year minimum coordination time

• Coordination time begins from submittal of preliminary plans from MDOT to RR

Contract with qualified vendor to perform RR
