Easter Facts

Ha Ha

Women were banned by royal decree from using hotel swimming pools in Jidda, Saudi Arabia, in 1979.

• The first Easter baskets were made to look like bird’s nests. • The traditional art of painting eggs is called Pysanka. • The custom of giving eggs at Easter time has been traced back to Egyp-

tians, Persians, Gauls, Greeks and Romans, to whom the egg was a symbol of life.

• In medieval times a festival of egg-throwing was held in church, during which the priest would throw a hard-boiled egg to one of the choir boys. It was then tossed from one choir boy to the next and whoever held the egg when the clock struck 12 was the winner and retained the egg.

• Easter is the second most important candy-eating occasion of the year for Americans, who consumed 7 billion pounds of candy in 2011, ac-cording to the National Confectioner’s Association.

• In 2000 nearly $1.9 billion was spent on Easter candy, while Halloween sales were nearly $2 billion; Christmas, an estimated $1.4 billion; and Valentine’s Day, just over $1 billion.

Music Education HelpsThere are benefits to learning an instrument, young or young at heart, it

is a great idea to take up lessons on the music you have always loved. I know what you are thinking, its not too late! Here is a list of reasons why musical education is beneficial;

~ Teaches discipline ~ Plain old FUN!~ Relieves stress ~ Gives sense of achievement

Even if you don't have time to go to a lesson, there are tons of great tutori-als on the web. Give it a go and see how it makes you feel!

In the 1930’s, a young traveller set out to explore the French Alps. He came upon a vast stretch of barren land that looked rejected by all life. It was desolate, ugly...the kind of place you hurry away from.

Just as he turned to find another route, the traveller stopped dead in his tracks, staring ahead to make certain his eyes did not deceive him. In the middle of this vast wasteland, was an old man bent from age and burden. On his back he carried a sack of acorns. In his hand was a four foot length of pipe. The man used the pipe to poke holes in the ground. Then from the sack he drew one acorn and dropped it in the hole.

Puzzled by the sight, the traveller approached the old man. Pleased to meet one another, they greeted each other warmly and stopped to rest a while.

The old man said to the traveller, “I’ve planted over 100,000 acorns. Perhaps only a tenth will grow. I have lived a full and happy life...one with many blessings. I made a good living from the earth as a farmer. But since my wife and son passed on and I am alone, I can no longer work the farm. This is how I have chosen to spend my final years. I want to do something useful - to give something back.”

Twenty-five years later the traveller returned to that same desolate area. What he saw amazed him. He could not believe his eyes. The land was covered with a beautiful, rich forest two miles wide and five miles long. Birds were singing, animals playing and wild flowers perfumed the air!

The traveller stood recalling the desolation that once was, now a beau-tiful oak forest - all because someone cared.

Famous QuotesOld age is no place for sissies. ~ Bette Davis

Easter PoemHark! how the children shrill and high Hosanna cry,Their joys provoke the distant sky,Where thrones and seraphims reply,And their own angels shine and singIn a bright ring:Such young, sweet mirthMakes heaven and earthJoin in a joyful symphony. ~ Henry Vaughan 1622-1695

Non-CandyFor parents worried that their children might

eat too much Easter candy, some experts suggest adding non-edible items to Easter baskets: crayons, movie passes, jump rope, baseball cards, kids’ videos, stencils, markers, paperback books, chalk, Playdoh, stuffed animals or balls.

Knock KnockKnock, knock. Who’s there? Dewey Dewey who? Dewey have to listen to any more easter bunny jokes?

A Fresh Perspective

John G. Miller Author of ... ‘QBQ! The Question Behind the Question®’, ‘Flipping the Switch ... Unleash the Power of Personal Accountability’, ‘Outstanding! 47 Ways to Make Your Organization Exceptional’,

http://www.qbq.com/ Denver, Colorado, USA 303-286-9900 [email protected]

A Tool Is Of No Value If It Is Not UsedIf someone asked me, "John, why do you and your team teach 'Personal

Accountability and the QBQ!' wherever you go?" I would say, "Well, let's have Steve with AutoTrader.com answer that!"

Steve's story:John, in February 2011 you spoke at the AutoTrader.com annual

meeting in Atlanta. I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of Flipping the Switch.

My first read through was completed on my fight home. There were many more reads to come.

Let’s fast forward 10 months to Friday, December 9th: On that day I learned from my Regional Director that I'd been named "Regional Sales-person of the Year." As I reflected on the achievement, feeling incredibly thankful, I pondered the reasons it had come about. I believe this recogni-tion was partly a result of trying to do the right things in support of my co-workers and clients and because of my strong belief in AutoTrader, our culture, mission, and leadership.

But, I truly believe the underlying reason for this achievement was the change that occurred in my thought process and behavior when I learned

how to use "the question behind question", the QBQ, to "flip the switch"!Thanks to the QBQ! principles, I know that my results are mine to

own and if they're not what I wanted, I can't blame my boss, my colleagues, my clients, or my family. Ownership and personal accountability are all about the choices that I make in my career and life. Over the past year, QBQ! became my approach in consulting, selling, coaching, relating, and interacting. QBQ! has led to deeper conversations and relationships, both at work and at home. And a wonderfully satisfying end-of-year result!

Thank you! And that's why we teach "Personal Accountability and the QBQ!" But

I need to say this to Steve: A tool is of no value unless it's used. You, Steve, heard the QBQ! message and ran with it, putting it into action. Now that's outstanding!

Meanwhile, lots of good stuff happening with QBQ!

Thanks for believing in QBQ! John G. Miller

John G. Miller

Music Education HelpsThere are benefits to learning an instrument, young or young at heart, it

is a great idea to take up lessons on the music you have always loved. I know what you are thinking, its not too late! Here is a list of reasons why musical education is beneficial;

(Brockville, ON March 13, 2012) – Brockville area employers expect an optimistic hiring climate for the second quarter of 2012, according to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.

Survey data reveals that 23 per cent of employers plan to hire for the upcoming quarter (April to June), while three per cent anticipate cut-backs, stated Virginia Stenner of Manpower’s Brockville office. Another 70 per cent of employers plan to maintain their current staffing levels while four percent of employers are unsure of their hiring intentions for the upcoming quarter.

“Brockville’s second quarter Net Employment Outlook of 20 per cent is a definite increase from the outlook of -13 per cent, which was report-ed for the previous quarter,” said Stenner. “It has also remained the same when compared to the outlook reported during the same time last year indicating a solid pace for the upcoming months.”(for more information about this article or about employment opportunities in the Brockville area call Manpower @ 613-342-0250)

Optimistic Hiring Climate Expected For Brockville

Road Rage

Swallowed A Coin!

A father, who worked away from home all week, always made a special effort with his family at the weekends. Every Sunday morning he would take his daughter out for a drive in the car.

One particular Sunday however, he was so sick with a cold that he really couldn’t drive at all. His wife came to the rescue and decided that for this week she would take their daughter out.

They returned just before lunch and the little girl ran upstairs to see her father.

“Well,” the father asked, “did you enjoy your ride with mummy?”“Oh yes Daddy” the girl replied, “and do you know what... we didn’t see a

single rotten driver!”

The kid had swallowed a coin and it got stuck in his throat. His mother ran out into the street yelling for help. A man passing by took the boy by his shoulders and hit him with a few strong blows on the back, and the boy coughed the coin out.

“I don’t know how to thank you, doctor,” his mother started.“I’m not a doctor,” the man replied. “I’m from the tax department!”
