History In the 1940s and 50s Americans were worried about communism rising in eastern Europe and China. Joseph Mccarthy accused people of communism, making everyone paranoid. Everyone started accusing others of communism. People were publicly tried and were often jailed and monitored without sufficient evidence of guiltiness. This resulted in the accused losing their job and social life. Almost no one stood up to stop Mccarthy from accusing people and ruining their lives. America- 50 states united by the believe of freedom Paranoid-suffering from the mental condition of paranoia. Communism-a political theory in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs.

DatesApril 22, 1954 The Army-McCarthy hearings begin, broadcast live in their entirety by ABC television.

June 9, 1954 Army attorney Joseph Welch, dusgusted by McCarthy’s attacks against his own assistant counsel, asks the senator, “Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?”

December 2, 1954 The United States Senate censures Senator Joseph McCarthy for “conduct contrary to Senatorial tradition.”
