It is that time of year again where we shine our favorite cars and head to Altus, AR for a visit to the Wiederkehr Winery. They are having their annual Winefest Day on Saturday, September 26th. http://www.wiederkehrwines.com For those of us who wish to caravan from NWA, we will be leaving from Joel and Kathy Menold’s house, 4026 Jessica Lane, at 8am sharp! Last year we had 12 Mercedes in our caravan driving down the “Pig Trail” and it was a beautiful sight to behold. I know that we can beat that record this year! Let Joel and Kathy Menold know that you will be joining us for a fun day at the winery. Email them at [email protected] or call them at 479-756-6798. Don’t forget that the public will be judging and voting for their favorite cars with trophies and prizes awarded at the end of the day. You could be our big winner!!!

Tri Section Picnic
I am so proud of our Ozark Section as we had 11 Mercedes caravan to Tulsa with 20 members attending our annual Tri Section Picnic!!! July 18th was a perfect day for Mercedes owners to get together. We had a great time visiting with our friends from the Eastern OK Section and the Central OK Section. Once again, Bruce Smith opened his beautiful home to all of us for this event. It is a picture perfect setting with beautiful large trees lining the drive way providing shade for everyone. We ate some of the best barbeque around thanks to Kip and Debbie Snellings, who cooked up hamburgers and bratwurst. The Ozark Section took home the lion’s share of the raffle ticket drawings with seven members taking home prizes! I was very proud to award David Jones his 20 year pin at this event. David and his wife, Ruth, are very active members. Thank you David for the incredible work you do for our section!! A 15 year pin was also awarded to Marion Burton.

Lost “N” the 50’s Road Trip August 8th was a perfect summer day for our road trip to Neosho, MO to visit the Lost “N’ the 50’s car museum. We left the Sonic in Bella Vista shortly after 9 am with 12 beautiful Mercedes and one extremely sharp vintage 1966 Mustang that belongs to Marc and Kathie Weinberg. We arrived in Neosho, MO and toured the Lost N the 50’s car museum. Dale Stanley’s inventory was down this particular day due to some sales but he still had an assortment of custom and vintage iron that took many of us back a few years. Dale takes
consignments and shows them as well. Our 13th Mercedes met us at the museum. Jeff and Denise Klepac drove all the way from
Olathe, KS to join us in the fun. After checking out all the fancy hot rods we were getting hungry and headed north on Hwy 175 to the Undercliff Bar and Grill in Tipton Ford, MO. The Undercliff Bar and Grill is built just as the name implies, under an overhang on the side of a mountain. We all had a
very
enjoyable lunch but needed a chocolate fix at the Candy Factory in Joplin before heading to the Sandstone Gardens. The ladies did most of the shopping while the men talked Mercedes and enjoyed the air conditioning! The next stop was across I-44 to the Downstream Casino where some of us donated a few dollars and all of us had a snack in the grill before heading for home. The evening proved to be a perfectly cool end to another great Ozark Section event!

Details of October Event
What would you say to an invitation for a leisurely breakfast at a restaurant that serves some of this area’s best food in a pleasant setting at a reasonable price, followed by a morning of hilarious entertainment? Hope you’ll say YES, because that’s what’s in store for October. The meeting’s a very important one, in that you will have an opportunity to impact the way our section operates. It’s in the morning because that’s also a game day for the Razorbacks.
We’ll meet first in a semi-private room at Mimi’s Café, which is on the west side of the Pinnacle Promenade Shopping Mall. While our breakfasts are being prepared we’ll conclude the election of a board member and the approval of a major revision to our bylaws. You will have been sent both a ballot and a review copy of the bylaws, so finalizing those items will be a formality that shouldn’t take long. Even if you don’t have time to devote to the entertainment part of the meeting, please come to this part; we need maximum attendance due to the importance of the agenda items.
Next, we’ll form a caravan and proceed to Pea Ridge to watch their famous Mule Jump and Show. It’s an annual event that has been held since 1985, draws a crowd of over a thousand from all across the U.S., and is sponsored by the Pea Ridge Parks Commission. Admission is $5, which helps support local non-profit programs. C’mon, you can afford it.
The main attraction is a variety of hilarious competitions involving mules, which are—of course—sometimes comically stubborn. Included are barrel racing, pole bending, flag racing, a halter event (in which the mules are judged for looks), best mule overall, and by far the most popular action—high jumps. Prizes of up to $1,000 are awarded.
Competing owners are in one of two divisions: Youth (age 14 and under) and Adult (older than that). Owners may not touch the mule during the jump competition. The mules compete in one of two classes: under 51-inches tall, and over that. Amazingly, they jump from a standstill over a covered crossbar. Winning mules typically jump as high as 66 inches. The record is 72 inches, set in 1989 by a mule from the short category! There’s also a hog calling contest, a stick-mule race for children, vendors who sell food and crafts, and displays by a club favoring antique tractors.
This should be a rustic event that balances some of our more cultured ones. Please let Dave know that you plan on attending the morning brunch and the Pea Ridge Mule Jump by emailing him at [email protected] or call 479-756-6943.
