The theme this month was Hangar Day, which gave us a rare opportunity to view the museum's collection of aircraft and vehicles. The Houston Section was originally scheduled to attend Wings and Wheels in August for Warbird Day, but had to cancel our appearance following the passing of longtime Houston Section member and supporter, Helmut Holder, to allow members to attend his visitation service, which was scheduled at the same time as the August date. About a dozen members showed up for the rescheduled date and brought their vehicles, ranging from 1960s classics to late models. Admission to the museum was free for all Houston Section members, who also received parking at the front. (continued on page 3) Wings and Wheels November 15, 2014 By Joseph Middleton

President’s Message Hello Houston Section Members,

Seasons Greetings from your Houston Section Board of Directors!

The Houston Section has made many changes over the last year to improve the quality of our events and our overall administrative processes. We will be offering many exciting events next year, many of which the Houston Section has never offered in the past. These events are a direct result of responses and suggestions from

our 2014 member survey that was mailed to all Houston Section members earlier in the year. Your board of directors is working hard to rebuild the Houston Section and we appreciate your continued input, as we plan and organize our upcoming events for 2015. Toward that end, we will be sending out email opinion surveys every quarter in 2015, to get your opinions on our upcoming events and the types of events that you would like to see us offer in the future. We sincerely appreciate and value your comments and we look forward to your responses to our email surveys. We are here to serve you and we hope to see you at one of our upcoming Houston Section events. Cheers! Steve Russell President MBCA- Houston Section

Wings and Wheels

Continued from page 1

Our members' vehicles made an impressive lineup that even managed to attract a stray Bentley at one point. Flaming Patties, a food truck specializing in gourmet hamburgers, was on site to feed our appetites. Michael Bludworth, who is arguably the museum's historian-in-residence, gave an excellent presentation on the history of commercial aviation in Houston, which included rare photographs and entertaining anecdotes. Parked on the ramp were two of the museum's aircraft: a Lockheed Model 18 Lodestar built in 1942 as a C-60A for the USAAF, converted an executive aircraft in the late 1940s, and donated to the Houston Aeronautical Heritage Society in 2002; and a vintage 1962 Cessna 172C, which will be raffled off at the July 2015 Wings and Wheels Open House. Also present on the ramp was the museum's 1927 Ford Model T Texaco Fuel Truck, and two aircraft tugs, one donated by Southwest Airlines and one donated by United Airlines. The Club was well received at the museum, and we thank them for hosting us as the Car Club of the month for Wings and Wheels. We especially want to thank Rich Simental, the Wings and Wheels Coordinator, for working with us to schedule and reschedule the event and ensuring that it was a success. More pictures follow on the next page.
