Our Featured Group:

The Social Gardener(Coordinator - Pauline Harris)

The U3A Social Gardener Group meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month between 10 am and 12 noon. We are a very friendly group of people that meet socially at a different venue each time usually with a garden theme such as a nursery or gardens. On Wednesday April 3rd we were guests at Kennsington Gardens, Wirlinga. This meeting was also a fund raising event in support of our member Pauline Stanyer who is raising funds in support of breast cancer. She intends to walk 200 kms in Italy in June. After the holidays our first meeting will be in the garden section of Bunnings Albury.

In the recent past we made visits to the Bhutanese Community gardens and The Wodonga Plant farm.

A ParticipantNew to U3A in 2019, I have been warmly welcomed into the Social Gardener group. I enjoy our fortnightly gatherings where we share gardening ideas and knowledge in a casual setting over a cuppa. A highlight for me so far was the visit to the community gardens on the causeway, where we were given a warm welcome by members of the Bhutanese community and a tour of the veggie plots. We even got to take home some organic produce, including snake beans and cherry tomatoes. Our leader Pauline braved the thick vegetation and possible snakes to collect a pumpkin!Wendy Appleyard

Another ParticipantFriends raise their eyebrows when I tell them I am a member of the Social Gardener group. I do not have the reputation of being an enthusiastic gardener. (Nor do I deserve it) But I do enjoy this group. We have visited members’ gardens, parks, the Sustainability Centre, the Bhutanese Gardens. We sometimes have interesting speakers, or hands on activit ies such as making kombucha, or Christmas wreaths. And the social aspect is important too. There is a constant exchange of ideas, not to mention seeds and cuttings, books and magazines. Morning tea and conversation is always involved. The Social Gardener is a group with an interesting and stimulating variety of activities, which even a non-gardener can enjoy.Lynne Keys

From America Lawyers should never ask a Georgia grandma a question if they aren't prepared for the answer.

In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting a t to rney ca l led h is fi rs t w i tness , a grandmotherly, elderly woman to the stand. He approached her and asked, 'Mrs. Jones, do you know me?' She responded, 'Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I've known you since you were a boy, and frankly, you've been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you're a big shot when you haven't the brains to realize you'll never amount to anything

Laugher is the Best Medicine

At Sunday School they were teaching how God created everything, including human beings. Little Johnny, a child in the kindergarten class, seemed especially intent when they told him how Eve was created out of one of Adam's ribs.

Later in the week his mother noticed him lying down as though he were ill, and said,"Johnny what is the matter?"

Little Johnny responded, "I have a pain in my side. I think I'm going to have a wife."

Children's Logic: The teacher says "Give me a sentence about a public servant," The small boy wrote: "The fireman came down the ladder pregnant." The teacher took the lad aside to correct him.  "Don't you know what pregnant means?" she asked.  "Sure," said the young boy confidently, "It means carrying a child."

A 6-year-old was asked where his grandma lived. "Oh," he said, "she lives at the airport, and when we want her, we just go get her. Then, when we're done having her visit, we take her back to the airport."

more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you.'

The lawyer was stunned. Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, 'Mrs. Jones, do you know the defense attorney?'

She again replied, 'Why yes, I do. I've known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. He's lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can't build a normal relationship with anyone, and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women. One of them was your wife. Yes, I know him.'

The defense attorney nearly died.

The judge asked both counselors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said, 'If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I'll send you both to the electric chair!

After putting her grandchildren to bed, a grandmother changed into old slacks and a droopy blouse and proceeded to wash her hair. As she heard the children getting more and more rambunctious, her patience grew thin. Finally, she threw a towel around her head and stormed into their room, putting them back to bed with stern warnings. As she left

Not sure where your class is?There are 2 TV screens just outside the AWCC Reception area. The right hand one has a list showing where the classes are for that day. The screen rotates between different displays so you might have to wait until the relevant one appears. Please use this method rather than asking at reception.

If you want to ask a person, find a committee member or go to the U3A office in the Cracknell Building.
