Wealth Screening at UCLA

• UCLA has been conducting wealth screening for many years.

• Wealth screening projects have been done on a school by school basis.

• Wealth ratings have been reviewed and modified by Research staff to include additional information not available through electronic screening.

• Many of the ratings in use are no longer up to date

– Broad changes based on economic circumstances

– Individual changes in assets and asset values

DonorScape Methodology

• UCLA submitted 973,696 records in 800,944 households to GG+A.

• Each individual record was matched against 12 national databases to acquire biographical, hard asset, and political and charitable contribution data.

• Using the information from the economic data sources, a gift capacity estimate was developed for each record.

DonorScape Gift Capacity Ratings

• GG+A's Gift Capacity Estimate is designed to avoid over-estimating an individual’s potential.

• All records received a Gift Capacity Rating (1-9) and a corresponding dollar value estimate, defined as an individual's capacity for a gift over five years.

• Ratings assigned based on the match quality of the underlying asset data at four levels:

– Exact

– Near

– Possible

– Simple• Match Quality refers to GG+A's level of confidence that a specific piece of

data belongs to the record to which it has matched. A "Simple" match suggests additional qualification is needed, whereas an "Exact" match can be used immediately with confidence.
