PREMIERES MONDAY, MAY 25 AT 9PM

A Tri-State History Lesson

Every day thousands of motorists pass by countless history markers and say to themselves, "One of these days I'm going to stop and read that."

Drive By History is back, with host Ken Magos and staff historian Anthony Bernard investigating history markers in New Jersey and Long Island, uncovering the events, places and people who make up the region’s unique history (Wednesdays at 8pm beginning May 13).

The premiere episode welcomes Dr. Libby O’Connell and author Antonia Petrash as they explore the region’s Suffrage Movement that helped secure ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, from Philadelphia to Huntington, and Lloyd Harbor to Tenafly. See rare photographs and get exclusive private access to the New Jersey home of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, leader of the American women’s rights movement.

Next, discover the profound effect Huntington, Brooklyn and Camden had on famed writer Walt Whitman, and Whitman’s influence on the local culture. And jump to Sandyston, New Jersey, where a history marker reveals a forgotten war that raged between New York and New Jersey in the 18th century. The rest of the season takes viewers on from Shelter Island to Garden City, and from Franklin Township to Springfield to examine spy rings, Thomas Edison’s weightier inventions, aviation firsts, and more.

Continuing your history lesson, a new episode of Here’s The Story premieres Wednesday, May 6 at 8pm. The Green Amendment, Part 1 follows Maya van Rossum, the Delaware Riverkeeper, on her quest to ignite an Environmental Rights (or “Green”) Amendment Movement across the United States. Pennsylvania added an Environmental Rights Amendment in the early 1970s. Now van Rossum is looking across the Delaware to the Garden State as a next obvious place to protect, preserve and defend all citizens' rights to clean air, clean water and a healthy and stable environment. The Military Intelligence Service (M.I.S.) was a secret

Japanese American U.S. Army unit that fought in the Pacific during World War II that helped shorten the war by two years. Now, two veterans have done what the U.S. Army has not – created the only comprehensive spread-sheet of those who served in the M.I.S. to help preserve their legacy after they’re gone.
