Principal’s Message
It is hard to believe that we are approaching the end of another
school year with only 35 school days left to go. With that being
said, there are a lot of end of year activities, athletic events,
and music programs still to attend. I encourage everyone to come
and enjoy the amazing work our students have accomplished with the
help of our ARHS Staff.
Please remind your child of the importance of finishing their
projects and having excellent attendance right up to the last day
of school. The partnership between home and school is an important
one and we need your help in keeping our students focused.
A special “thank you” to all the parents and friends that have
volunteered throughout the school year. Your donation of time helps
to make a difference in the lives of our students! I am extremely
grateful to the ARHS community for all their support!

1:1 Take Home Chromebooks
For the 17-18 school year, all ASD middle and high school students
will check out a Chromebook for use at school and home. Thanks to
the $22 million technology levy passed by the Auburn community in
2014, secondary students will have access to digital resources
where and when they need them.
Later this month, more information including online forms for
families will be available from the district and school
webpages.
High School Email Update
Reminder, effective after spring break, high school students are
able to use their school email accounts to send/receive messages
outside of the Auburn School District domain. This change allows
students to maintain academic accounts for professional
communication regarding educational and career opportunities after
high school and for classroom related activities. This will allow
students to learn proper email etiquette and use with support from
school staff. Graduating seniors may access their school district
email accounts for six months before the accounts are closed.
Please be reminded students’ use of email is governed by the ASD
Acceptable Use Procedures for Electronic Resources. As such, emails
may be reviewed without prior notice and retained. All use of email
should be consistent with the mission of the Auburn School
District.

Testing, testing, testing! Smarter Balance Test
On May 16 -18, the students in 10, 11 and 12 grades (who meet
eligibility requirements) will be taking the SBA assessments for
both federal accountability and to meet state graduation
requirements. Students in grade 11 are required to take the English
Language Arts (ELA) and the Math assessments, unless they received
a level 3 or 4 score in 10th grade. Students in 11 and 12 grades
who previously tested on the ELA and/or Math assessment may attempt
it again for a higher score. In Washington state colleges, students
scoring a level 3 or 4 on the SBA can qualify for credit-bearing
courses and avoid having to take remedial courses.
Students in 10th grade will be taking the ELA assessment. The Math
assessment is available only to students in grade 10 who are
completing or have already completed Advanced Algebra. Ninth
graders are not eligible to take the test.
Students and parents will be notified of the tests still needed to
meet both federal and state requirements. Parents, please make sure
your email information is up to date in our system. Thank
you.

THE COLLEGE SUCCESS FOUNDATION PROGRAM
During spring break the Auburn School District and the College
Success Foundation had its first overnight event with the districts
first cohort of Achievers Scholars. College Preparatory Advisors
(CPAs) Tremaine Frazier-Stanley, Conrad Webster and Sam Washington
took 35 students from all three high schools to the eastern side of
the state visiting Central Washington University, Eastern
Washington University, and Washington State University.
This trip is an annual part of the Achievers Scholars Program which
exposes students to the high education environment. Students were
given tours of campus, admissions presentations, and introductions
to several resources at each location that would help the
transition process and foster success; especially for low income
students and students of color. Auburn students embraced the
experience asking thoughtful questions and having engaging
conversations with their peers.
The College Success Foundation and the CPAs are already looking
forward to next year’s trip!
Keep on Soaring!
Great Job Ravens!
