CHAPLAIN’S CORNER

“Tis the Month of Our Mother,

The Blessed and Beautiful Days”

During the month of May,

each of us celebrates the second

Sunday, Mother’s Day, by ex-

pressing our love for our Mothers,

whether they are in this world or the next, with all the

love and affection we can possibly show them, be-

cause they have shown their love for us in so many

tangible ways, including bringing us into existence.

May is, of course, dedicated to our heavenly

Mother as well, because it reminds us of the important

role she played in bringing Jesus into our world and so

contributing so much to our spiritual life and our eter-

nal life. It was Mary who welcomed Our Savior into

this world at Nazareth and Bethlehem. She was an

important influence in Jesus beginning His public life.

Life at Cana with the working of His first miracle.

The

Gospels are full of references to Our Lady and how

she supported her Divine Son during His early life and

His public life. She was with Him on Calvary and al-

so at His Ascension into Heaven.

The secret of the greatness of the little girl

from Nazareth, the reason why we honour her and

pray to her here in Etobicoke in 2012 and build beauti-

ful churches here in Etobicoke in her name is her ac-

ceptance of God’s will, her love for her Divine Son

and her total dedication to Him every moment of life.

Her whole life was centered upon Him. She stood be-

side Him and protected Him all her life.

This is why we pray to Mary as Queen of the

Knights of Columbus. She is our patron and our mod-

el. She devoted her whole life to her Divine Son. She

stood up for Him and was there for Him from the mo-

ment of His conception until His death on the cross.

He was the center, the purpose, the reason for her

every action.

Our lives as Knights should also be centered

on Christ through daily prayer , weekly Mass and the

Sacraments. We should like Mary, try to carry out

God’s plan for the sanctification of ourselves, our

families and our world.

As Mother’s Day reminds us that we demon-

strate openly our love for our biological Mothers in

some real good tangible way, so May, the month of

Mary, our spiritual Mother, reminds us that we should

show our love and devotion for her in some open real

and visible way, whether by saying three Hail Mary's

first thing in the morning and the last thing at night,

by saying that Rosary daily that we were given when

we became Knights, or in some definite and real way.

May Mary who brought Jesus into this world,

bring Her Divine Son into your hearts, your lives, your

homes and your families.

Mary, Queen of the Knights of Columbus, pray

for us.

Rev. L.D. Burns, C.S.B.

Chaplain, Kingsway Council

GRAND KNIGHT’S MESSAGE

Brother Knights,

This fraternal year is

almost over, and we have been

very busy. But once again, the

year is not over yet, and we still

have a lot of work ahead of us.

I was a bit disappointed about

the turnout for our Mother’s

Day Rose Sunday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church.

There was no one available to cover the final mass and

so we had to leave early. Thanks to those of you who

were able to help. Your hard efforts and sacrifice

helped raise just over $320 for the Right to Life in To-

ronto. It would be nice to see some new faces at the

events in the future (along with some of the more fa-

miliar ones).

This year’s convention was very good, and one

major highlight was the announcement that the

Knights in Ontario are very close to providing an in-

surance plan for all of Ontario that covers every coun-

cil and its executive for any and all events held by a

council. More information will follow as it becomes

available.

Saturday, May 26th will be the day for picking

up the boxes of steak that were ordered early March.

Those of you who ordered them can pick them up at

the council at 1:00 p.m., and please bring your pay-

ment if you have not yet paid.

One other important announcement that was

brought to my attention by Brother Rocky Gualtieri,

Grand Knight of Humber Valley Council, is that St.

Francis Table needs some help with supper service in

June and July. The help is needed every Monday,

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 3:00 p.m.

and 7:00 for the month of June and July, and the first

Wednesday and Thursday in August. If anyone is able

to give a helping hand, please contact Brother John

Frampton at [email protected] or call St. Francis Table

at 416 532-4172 or get in touch with me at kofcking-

[email protected] or 416 -799-0445. Any and all

help is greatly appreciated.

We likely will be hosting an upcoming 3rd de-

gree sometime in late June. More information will

follow once confirmation of venue and availability of

the 3rd degree team is received.

Some other upcoming events:

May 26th & 27th: Rose Sunday at St. Grego-

ry’s Parish.

June 24th: Outdoor Mass and BBQ at Our La-

dy of Sorrows.

Our last general meeting will be a brief one on

June 12th, after which we will have a BBQ. June

26th, we will have our Ladies Night in place of our

executive meeting. All Brother Knights of our council

are invited, along with their spouse or significant oth-

er. I hope to see a better turnout for our upcoming

events.
