    Apart Together

Peace be to the whole community, and

love with faith, from God the Father

and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace be

with all who have an undying love for

    our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Ephesians 6:23-24

Well, the migration is in full flight. Each Sunday morningsince Easter our hearts have trembled through the uncertain-ties of our partings. There have been more extended hand-shakes, more hugs, more see you in the falls, as a largecontingent of our church family heads toward their otherhomes and the loved ones there. Its a distinct element ofour life here at FHPC. For half the year, we are removedfrom so many who mean so much to us.

Out of sight, however, is not out of mind. Though we aredistanced; we are not asundered. We remain part of one an-other; even as we reside in other parts.

And so we pray, along with the apostle Paul, for our wholecommunity, for all who have an undying love for our LordJesus Christ. . . We can pray this here in consideration ofthose who have travelled there. And we can pray thisthere for those who abide here.

Reaching out from Rome across the intervening miles to the

    Fountain Hills, AZ May 2012

    From Our Pastor

church in Ephesus, the apostle continues to guide us throughour season of separation, saying: Pray in the Spirit at atimes in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep ale

and always persevere in supplication for all the saints.

And then he turns deeply personal: Pray also for me, so thawhen I speak, a message may be given to me to make know

with boldness the mystery of the gospel. . . Pray that I madeclare it boldly, as I must speak. This, likewise, is my request of all of you.

Holding one another in prayer, wherever we may be found. .Bound together by prayer. . . Bound together in prayer. . This is the key to remaining a community, even though ware parted geographically. This is the key to remaining apartogether. In the meantime:

May the road rise up to meet you,

May the wind always be at your back,

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

The rains fall soft upon your fields and,

    Until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand

    Let us pray,

    Rev. Bill Good

Memorial Day reflectionWe who are left how we shall look again

Happily on the sun or feel the rainWithout remembering how they who went

Ungrudgingly and spentTheir lives for us loved, too, the sun and rain?

Here we are, in the last monthbefore our summer music ses-

sion begins. My, my, how timeflies. Some say the days go byslow, but the years go byfast. I say every minute fliesby quickly, without a moment towaste. We have a full summerseries of music to fill, the VBSweek of fun, with music and rec-r e a t i o n ,

snacks, lessons, stories and greatfun, followed in the afternoons of the sameweek by a band camp that caters to theolder youth who just like spending hours

upon hours together, making music, playingdifferent instruments, listening to new musicand putting together some great ChristianMusic to bring into our worship ser-vice. The band camp is offered to kids jun-ior level through high- school. There is a feeinvolved, so anyone who has an interestedyouth who loves music and would like to par-ticipate in the band camp, please contact me throughthe office, or call me at home, 480-837-1810 for moreinformation.

What a privilege to have been able to sing at theEaster Sunrise Service last month. By gathering a

group of hearty musical souls, Paula Eberspacher,Greg Fisher, Phil Katz, Jake Eberspacher, Jon Traut-man, Jerry Zilofer and myself, we met at the Foun-tain Park at o-dark-thirty, carrying instruments andcoffee mugs, ready to sing in our designated place atthe designated time. We carried out a fine job of har-mony and sound. It was good to be asked to do it,and I hope our church has an opportunity to put some

music into the service again. The whole music ministry unit, including the

sound-booth personnel and the Audio/Visualteam, experienced a WONDERFUL time in thebeautiful home of Howard and Arlene Olsen forour end of the season gathering. The hosts werefirst-rate, and our organizing team of Kris Peluso,Roy Nickel and Letha Neeley under the leader-ship of our music ministry secretary, Helen Quig-ley, brought us all together for a great

time, recognizing the efforts of all whoput forth music into our worship service, week in and week out, and making surethe sound carries our praise toGod. What a great year it has

been! Thank you everyone! In closing, I'd like to remind those ofyou with musical ability that our summersession of music does require heart-feltpresentations to continue, and if youhave a solo, duet, trio, quartet or morethat you are interested in sharing with ourcongregation, contact me through the

office or at home, 480-837-1810. To those re-turning to your summer homes and families, besafe. We look forward to your return.

The eternal God is your refuge, and under-neath are the everlasting arms.

Acts of GodUnexpected flash mob musical performances have sprung up in public places such as airports and malls. Phila-delphias 600-member Opera Company scattered among Macys crowds and broke out in the Hallelujah Chorus.A university choir did the same at a Fargo, North Dakota, food court. Groups have also performed impromptuperformances of Silent Night, Amazing Grace and well-known secular songs.

These events have been called random acts of culture, but they might better be called purposeful acts of God.Through music, we can praise God anywhere. Whenever Christs disciples move beyond churchbuildings and Christian gatherings to share the gospel, God is surely at work.

JUST COFFEE MISSION PROJECTCOMES TO A CLOSE

Thank You! The Mission Committeewill conclude the sale ofJUSTCOFFEEon Sunday, April 15th. Your purchases ofJUST COFFEE this past season, has con-

tributed to improving the lives of the coffeegrowers living in the border town of Salva-dor Urbina, Chiapas, Mexico. In addition, the Mission Committee was

able to provide the modest proceeds of

$73.00 to support C.A.R.E. and HELP the

Troops. We look forward to providing other

initiatives to support the mission work of

    Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church.

    ONE GREAT HOUR OF

    SHARING

A special offering for One Great Hourof Sharing was taken on Easter Sun-day, April 8th. The ministry of OneGreat Hour of Sharing is a continuouseffort to share God's love with needypeople worldwide. $ 2053.25 wascollected.Thank you for your generous support!

We continue to work with the Changing Lives Centerin Phoenix (which is the female counterpart to the Phoe-nix Rescue Mission) which helps to support and teachday-to-day skills for women, mothers and their chil-dren. They are in a Christian-based environment wherethey may live until they are ready to be out on theirown.Late last fall, we helped out with providing music to anotherwise quiet existence by donating new CD playersand assorted CD's that were shared between every-one. Through conversations our committee has hadwith Mark Tullis since then, we discovered even more

music would be appreciated. So, a couple of weeksbefore Easter--on the date of the CLC Open House, infact--we took to them a little surprise to hopefullybrighten their world once again! There are currently 11 women in the facility, as well asseveral children and a couple on the way, so we madeup 12 Easter Baskets colorfully appointed with twoCD's in each, as well as a bit of seasonal candy! Thistime, we searched for more religious-natured CD's, aswell as some more modern artists (like Michael Bubleand Adele). We also made up a basket entirely of lulla-bies and young children's music. It was a wonderfulsuccess!

Next fall, we will likely set up another tour incase anyone else is interested in going down with us tosee the impact this center has on all these lives, and tosee how else we may be called on to help them! Pleasejoin us! It is an amazing place!

Involved in studio dancing her entire life, she pursued itat the school level, and on into the Senior Dance Company atthe high school until the program was discontinued due tobudget cuts. For many years, Emily also took voice lessons, and now her senior year, was finally able to fit choir into hercourse schedule at the high school, singing with the Vocal FXShow Choir.Arriving in Arizona as a 7th grader, Emily had been swim-ming competitively with a swim club. Within a year or two, however, she desired to be a part of school sport teams. Sheplayed soccer in 8th grade, and Varsity Tennis as a fresh-man. And then she discovered volleyball! the next phase of their lives with excitement, anticipationand perhaps a little apprehension. We hope these words, adapted from Phillips Brooks, will serve graduates well

as they embark on their journeys:

Do not pray for an easy life; pray to be a strongerperson. Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers but

for powers equal to your tasks. Then the doing of yourwork shall be no miracle, but you will be the miracle.

Every day you shall wonder at yourself and the richnessof life which has come to you by the grace of God.

Feed My Sheep and Thanks toPW, Mission Committee andMary Alice BivensWe are feeding His Sheep in manyways. Take a moment to see whatthe scripture tells us and then read

what your sisters are doing.Scripture: John 21:16-17

Feed my sheep: In verse 16, Jesus tells Peter to feed His sheep.

In Greek, the word "feed' is different from that used in verse

    15. In this verse the word "feed' means "to shepherd," "to

tend," "to rule. " In other words, besides feeding with the Word

and acts of provision, it also includes guiding, warning, pro-

tecting, disciplining, restoring, etc. The word "sheep" refer to

more mature Christians. When we love Jesus we express our

love to Him by pastoring Christians by warning them against

false doctrines, protecting them from wrong associations, dis-

ciplining them, training them, restoring the backslidden etc.

Every Christian parent is a pastor to his own little flock.

Whether a Christian is a lamb or a sheep, he always needs to

be fed with God's Word through Sunday school teachers, bible

    -teachers, missions and preachers.

Conclusion: Are we feeding Jesus' lambs and sheep? Or are wealways expecting to be fed by others? The motivation for feed-ing Jesus' sheep must be love for Him. Any other reason willnot be acceptable to Him. Furthermore, if it is merely fromlove of men that we feed them, we will soon be discouragedfrom doing so - because men inevitably disappoint us. There-fore, we must realize that our feeding of men is primarily anexpression of our love to Jesus, who first loved us. These actsof feeding men are part of our worship to Him. When we con-sider these acts of feeding as unto Jesus, and our rewards asfrom Him, then we can serve sacrificially and Joyfully. Peterremembered Jesus' exhortation and later wrote "Feed the flockof God' (I PE 5:2).The PW CT, the Mission Committee and Mary Alice Bivens,

spear heading and organizing these efforts on behalf of FHPC,

have contributed $ 500.00 to The Church of the Ascension for

the Weekender Bag Program. Members of PW CT have

signed up for hands on work to pack bags on May 24 and Au-

    gust 23.

young women leaving the life of prostitution. Sister my sis-ters!! These are good things you do. Thanks Mary Alice as

In-carnationThe official flower of Mothers Day is the carnation, the favorite flower of the mom of holidays founder, Anna Jarvis. Overtime, the custom arose of wearing the white carnation on Mothers Day if your mother has died and a red one if shes living.

In fact, many carnation colors have special meanings. Pink carries the richest Christian symbolism. According to legend, car-nations first appeared on earth as Mary wept while watching Jesus carry his cross. Where her tears fell, there appeared pinkcarnations, symbolizing a mothers undying love.

According to one theory, the English word for carnation comes from carnis, Latin for flesh. From the same root comes incar-nation, Gods coming to earth in flesh. Thus, carnations remind us of our loving mothers as well as our loving Savior.

    Hospitalized? Call the church!

Ifyou are sick, hospitalized or home recovering from ill-ness, we want you to call the church and let us know! In a con-gregation like ours where people leave in droves for extendedsummer months, it is easy for the staff, elders and deacons to

assume, when we dont see someone, that they are simplyvacationing away. The truth is that some of you are sick andwe are not aware of it.You can help us by simply letting one of the staff know ofyour situation. We have an excellent support system in placedue to the diligent efforts of our deacons. Help us serve youby communicating your situation.

    Thanks, Mom

Dad came home to find toys all over the living room, dirty dishesstacked in the sink, clothes piled in the laundry room, beds unmadeand kids still in their pajamas. The house was a wreck, like nothinghed seen before.

Worried, Dad rushed upstairs to find Mom reading a book in bed.

Are you okay? he asked. What happened?

You know how you always ask what I do all day? Mom replied.Well, today I decided not to do it.
