WHIZ KIDS TUTORING MINISTRY NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

Are you interested in making a positive difference in the life of a child? The Whiz Kids Tutoring Ministry needs additional volunteers to tutor elementary school stu-dents in math or reading. Tutoring takes place on Wednesday afternoons from 2:15 to 3:45 at Snapfinger Elementary School which is located at 1365 Snapfin-ger Road in Decatur. If you are interested, or if you know anyone who is interested in tutoring a student in math or reading, please contact Granvette Matthews, the Whiz Kids Coordinator, at 404.228.7747 or at [email protected]. Vol-unteering just one hour per week can help make a significant difference in the academic life of a child who needs to develop basic math or reading skills.

PLAY BALL!Spring has sprung, the Braves are back in town and it’s time to start thinking about another summer softball season at FPC. We will try and field two men’s teams this year in the North Atlanta Church League (www.naclsports.info) and a co-ed team if enough interest develops (Yes, you could play on a men’s and co-ed team at the same time!).

All games will be played at the renovat-ed Northside Drive Baptist Church field. Our season will run from early June until playoffs are completed just before Labor Day. Practices will start in May.

This competitive Christian league is a great chance for us to enjoy fellowship, exercise and fun! Please contact Jason Cherry at (404) 291-2868 or [email protected] or Henry Grady at (404) 813 – 5415 or [email protected] to

The Meals on Wheels ministry is looking for additional substitute

volunteers to help deliver meals to the elderly and shut-ins. This

program helps ensure that the elderly who can’t get out or can’t

handle preparing their own meals get a nutritious meal delivered

by a friendly face. First Presbyterian has operated this program

for over 30 years and we are currently looking to add to our list of

substitute volunteer slots.

The service would be on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday morn-

ing beginning between 10:00 and 10:30. The volunteers pick up

prepacked meals at our Meals on Wheels office near the church

kitchen and receive a list of recipients and the prepacked meals.

The routes are to elderly high-rise facilities in the Midtown and

Buckhead areas and take no more than two hours to navigate.

You will only be delivering 10 or less meals to one location.

The routes are set up so drivers only have to make one stop

and there is no need to return to the church once the meals are

delivered. For more info, contact Sandi Harsh at 404-228-7726 or

[email protected].

THEOLOGYMATTERS Short Courses for the Thoughtful Christian

ROADSIDE RELIGIONWednesdays in the Berean Room | April 13, 20, 27 & May 4| 7:00-8:15 pmInstructor: Ryan Bonfiglio

In America today, Christianity is not only encountered within the walls of churches or the confines of small group Bible studies. Rather, expressions of faith routinely seep into popular culture, whether in the form of Bible bumper stickers, evangelistic tracks, mega-church billboards, or Christian theme parks. How can we understand and interact with these forms of “roadside religion”? What role do they play in shaping popular Christian beliefs? And how might a Presbyterian respond to these curious combinations of Christianity and culture? This four-week series will explore these and other questions about the everyday artifacts of faith known as roadside religion.
