Press Release
MauBank Graduate Program
MauBank and the University of Mauritius have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, in the presence of the press, this Friday 21st July 2017, at le Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel, to officialise their collaboration over a Graduate Programme.
The Graduate Programme gives the opportunity to fresh unemployed graduates to complete a Post Graduate diploma in Banking Studies with the University of Mauritius, while undergoing on the job training at the bank for a period of one year.
The programme combines formal learning covering theoretical knowledge and skills needed to operate in the banking sector through lectures at the university, with experiential development and technical skill-development through on-the-job training, industry projects and face-to-face development interventions.
Graduates will attend formal lectures one day a week, and be on placement for the remaining four days at MauBank. Head of Departments in MauBank will monitor progress on a quarterly basis through industry projects, while the University of Mauritius will act as moderator.
Graduates eligible to apply for the graduate programme need to be registered under the Graduate Training for Employment Scheme (GTES) of the Human Resources Development Council (HRDC). A first batch of 10 graduates will be recruited under the program and will be posted in different departments of the bank.
In addition to the full Post Graduate Diploma Course to be free of charge, students will be provided with a monthly stipend to support their expenses. After completion of the one-year placement, and upon successful completion of the Post Graduate Diploma in Banking Studies, the graduates will have the possibility to secure full time employment at the bank, subject to their performance.
The Memorandum of Understanding brings MauBank and UOM to work collaboratively to provide opportunities for students to gain vocational skills relevant to the workplace environment and to pursue advanced studies. The programme attempts to address the mismatch between the skills available and market needs of the financial sector, one of the pillars of the economy. The creation of talents in the field is a response to the requirements of an expanding sector. “Bridging the gap between higher education inputs and corporate skill requirements is an imperative for Mauritius, particularly in the context of improving overall service-sector productivity. This unique and direct corporate engagement with the students of a post graduate program in partnership with UOM is a concrete step towards bridging that gap” says Sridhar Nagarajan, CEO of MauBank.
