    National Child Measurement programme

    The National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) is a

    mandatory annual programme

    It measures the height and weight of children in Reception

    (age 4-5 years) and Year 6 (age 10-11 years)

    Walsall also measures children in Year 4 (age 8-9 years)

    and Year 10 (age 14-15 years) providing robust data on

    childhood obesity.

    *Child recommendations for physical activity in CMO report 2011 – one hour moderate activity per day

    HSE reports at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity on all seven days in the last week

    Around two in ten children aged 5-15 years meet the government recommendations* for physical activity (boys 21%, girls 16%)

  • Sport Premium Funding 2016/17 • Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable

    improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.

    - Develop or add to the PE and sport activities that your school already offers

    - Make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years

  • Childhood Obesity Strategy Introducing a soft drinks levy

    - Double Sport Premium Funding

    - Invest a further £10 million per academic year into school healthy breakfast clubs

    Helping all children enjoy an hour of physical activity every day

    - Every primary school child should get at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity a day

    - 30 minutes should be delivered in school

    - Remaining 30 minutes supported by parents and carers

    - Schools must demonstrate what they are doing to make their pupils more physically active
