Bus changes in west Walsall and WolverhamptonThere will be changes to routes, timetables and numbers for some bus services in west Walsall and Wolverhampton from Sunday 24th July 2011.

Partners Arriva, Centro, Central Connect, Midland, National Express West Midlands and Walsall and Wolverhampton Councils are working together to deliver a more modern bus network.

As part of the review we looked at whether the existing bus network is providing the right services for people within the area and to places such as health and leisure facilities and shops. We did this by asking for local views and looking at the number of people using the services, where services interchange and what changes could be made with the local buses in the area.

We recently undertook a large amount of consultation and market research in the west Walsall and Wolverhampton area to ask local people and local representatives about their views on the current network. Over 1,400 people provided comments. We would like to thank everyone who took part to help shape the revised network.

The revised network will begin from the start of service on Sunday 24th July, and in the run up to that date you will see some numbers and timetables changing at bus stops and shelters across west Walsall and Wolverhampton.

Wolverhampton’s new state-of-the-art bus station will also open on Sunday 24th July. This means that some services may also have minor timetable and minor city centre route changes in addition to the more detailed changes listed in this leaflet. This is to reflect how they travel into and out of the bus station and Wolverhampton city centre. A leaflet about the bus station and a new city centre guide for Wolverhampton showing the new stopping locations for buses in the city centre and bus station will be available at the exhibitions detailed on the last page of this leaflet.

Bus companies Midland and National Express West Midlands are working together to operate a joint timetable on service 10 (renumbered from 510) to give customers travelling between Wolverhampton and Perton a more co-ordinated frequency of services and more buses during peak times.

Quality and highway improvements as part of the revised network

The network review partners are currently agreeing a series of quality and highway improvements for the bus network over the next three years. These will include newer buses, new infrastructure (such as new stops and shelters), bus friendly highway improvements and the introduction of Real Time Information displays at key shelters and stops in Wolverhampton and west Walsall.

Network West Midlands

Network West Midlands is the name that connects all public transport in the West Midlands metropolitan area (Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton).

Centro, the West Midlands Integrated Transport Authority is responsible for developing and promoting public transport in the region.

Centro works closely with the West Midlands district councils and the private companies who operate bus, train and Metro services. Centro also provides subsidy to the operator for all or some journeys on some routes.

All partners in Network West Midlands are working together to provide better passenger information and to invest in improved facilities and services.
