INTRODUCTION
• Newspapers are the most conventional means
of communication
• Serves as a rich resource to build
mathematical ability through its quantitative,
probabilistic and dynamic abilities
• In working with newspapers, students apply
literacy and mathematical skills while they
appreciate the importance of studying current
affairs.
• To relate concepts with the news of their interest
and likability for lifelong learning
AIM
• To inspire students to read newspaper articles through a
different vision
• Explore mathematics in the form of percentages, analyzing
statistics, algebra, arithmetic, examine data handling, ratio
and proportion, help them in studying graphs and develop a
number sense
• Exercised by asking questions which would help them to
enhance their mathematical ability.
RATIONALE
• Newspapers continue to be an important aspect of everyday life.
• Adaptable to all levels of ability and interest.
• It is important that students find the mathematics demanding
and supportive.
• Students learn best when they are motivated and studying
material that is relevant to their lives.

number of remaining species.
4. Depict the given data of flora-fauna using pie chart.
5. Using these equations
N+C=x
S= 6200
SC+Na=633
And
N + Na=94
Sc+C=Y
Find ‘x’ and ‘y’ where
N- Northern
C- Central
S-Southern
Sc- South Central
Na- Nanakpura
6. Write 3 measures should be taken to conserve flora –
fauna

5. What is importance of a teacher in
your life
• Newspapers incorporated into the math curriculum make an
impact on lifelong learning.
• It gives real glance to practical application of mathematics.
• Provide students an opportunity to experience “doing
mathematics”
BENEFITS OF NEWSPAPER AS
TEACHING PEDAGOGY IN
MATHEMATICS
CONCLUSION
• Not primarily a matter of plugging numbers into formulas
and performing rote computations.
• It is important that the classroom teacher take every
opportunity to use current, relevant resource materials to
