2009 Data on New Cut Scores

Cut-Score Changes

• Cut scores were raised for all MATH courses (making it more rigorous/difficult to place into a specific course) and to bring the cut-score more in line with IVYTech (who uses the same Compass Placement Test).

• Resulting in a shift of 400 students (4.6%) at each placement level to a lower course, out of 8,640 students tested from Aug 2008 to Aug 2009.

Students are given an intermediate algebra question, depending on the response being correct or not, the test starts adapting itself to the test-taker. Usually in less than 20 questions, the student ends in one of the algebra domains:

MA604 Trigonometry Questions

There are no calculus questions (domain) on the placement test.
