Upon completion, students will receive a certificate stating “36 hours of instruction – the equivalent of 3 credits” 2218 WK40 - 300 Equality in the USA (3-credit course) April 20 – May 15 Cost: $350 This course will probe the guiding question: What does prejudice, racism and discrimination have to do with equality in the USA? We will examine the topics of Women’s Rights, Religious Freedom, Rights for Immigrants, Native Americans and Latinos, as well as equality for Americans with Disabilities, LGBT and African Americans. 2215 WK43 - 300 Massachusetts: Hub of Innovation (3-credit course) April 20 - May 15 Cost: $350 Massachusetts was named in the top two of most innovative states in America in 2019 (Bloomberg). This course will introduce students to some of the major advances, discoveries and inventions that originated in Massachusetts and will explain their influences in the past and present on human life. Students will examine the traits and of innovators and the work cultures that foster innovative thinking. Students will debate what’s next for Massachusetts’s hub of innovation. 18-Hour Courses: Upon completion of two courses OR one course and one trip, students will receive the same certificate as above. 2155 AP152 - 300 TOEFL Exam Prep (1.5 credit course) April 13 to April 26 Cost: $160 The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) measures an individual’s English proficiency level as it pertains to reading, listening, speaking and writing in academic settings around the world, and it is a required component for admission consideration to most US colleges and universities. TOEFL Preparation will prepare you to take the TOEFL IBT test. In this online course, you will gain a thorough understanding of how each of the four sections of the test is constructed and scored, build and improve the necessary test-taking skills of skimming and scanning, note taking, summarizing and synthesizing, and you will be introduced to test-specific strategies that will increase both your confidence and success on test day. Students will have the opportunity to practice each section of the test,

Additional course topics will include TOEFL-specific vocabulary and essential grammar points needed during the writing and speaking portions of the test. 1974 AP199 – 303 Journey: This is America- Immigration and Migration (1.5 credit course) April 18 - May 2 Cost: $160 The United States of America’s history is one that is complexed and beautiful at the same time. For a nation that is only 243 years old, we have experienced so much, in such a short amount of time. As a baby nation compared to nations in Africa, Europe and in South and Central America, United States is a multi-faceted nation. This course is going to give you American History with a focus on immigration and migration.

2216 WK42 - 300 The Art & Science of Hospitality (1.5 credit course) April 20 – May 1 Cost: $175 Customer service is at the heart of this industry. There is an art and science needed to master it. This course will include a survey of the various segments of the hospitality industry. Industry standards, management styles, and communication strategies in a culturally diverse, global society will be examined. 2217 WK41 - 300 Eating your way across the USA (1.5 credit course) April 20 to May 8 Cost: $175 What a great way to discover each state in our union by learning about the foods that they are famous for and understanding each state’s cuisine by tracing its history and geographic location. In this class we will learn state regionalisms for foods, state crops, food festivals across this country and overall define: What is American food? This is the class for the foodie! 1798 AP200 - 300 Journey: Comparing Cultures (1.5 credit course) May 2 to May 16 Cost: $160 We will look at the United States as it compares to the students’ various countries. Lifestyle, education, career choices, and travel are just a few of the topics that will be discussed. Towards increasing cross-cultural understanding, students will be encouraged to share their own observations and experiences through exercises and discussions. 1799 AP200-301 Journey: Americana (1.5 credit course) May 2 to May 16 Cost $160 This course will introduce typical American people, places, and things, providing student with essential information about the USA. Topics include: body language, blue jeans, the American cowboy, baseball, Las Vegas, tornadoes, The Oscars, Mount Rushmore, Bill Gates, Henry Ford, the cranberry, Uncle Sam, Kellogg’s Corn Flakes and Mia Hamm.

Trips with East Coast Edventures

Past or future trips with East Coast Edventures are counted as part of the AuPair/Journey Program. You can take one (1.5 credit) course and one trip with East Coast Edventures to receive your certificate stating “36 hours of instruction – the equivalent of 3 credits”.
