EditorialJesus Christ, the Savior of mankind came to this world “To Serve”, and “Not to

be Served”. Let Christ's example be reflected throughout our lives. Through

this Issue of “Daya‐darpan” in con�nua�on with the Tenth Anniversary of

Dayabhavan, we would like to share with you the tremendous achievements

made over the 10‐year period towards the cause of the least and the

marginalized.

At this blessed occasion, I earnestly appeal all the well‐wishers and

associates, especially the Youth, to experience the joy of giving, sharing and

empowering the needy and the challenged. How can we join hands to help

the poor and the needy? A few sugges�ons:

• Come and see how Dayabhavan and similar organiza�ons func�on.

• Teach your family members and associates about the necessity of service.

• Visit the Centres dedicated for the cause of the deprived.

• Be a part of the Mission Houses.

• Be an instrument to develop enhanced confidence among the volunteers

and the Service team.

• Extend moral and financial support according to the talents you received.

• Above all, pray for the care‐giving ins�tu�ons, the volunteers, the

beneficiaries and all those who support them.

Tumkur District is choosen by Dayabhavan for providing awareness and healthcare, specially for kidney ailments, and as the pilot project, the Medical Team from the Kidney Founda�on reached every nook and corner of Bhaktharahalli Panchayat, tested 3785 people at the Medical Camp and found 20.82% with hypertension, 1.3% with urine sugar, and 34 people were diagnosed with raised crea�ne levels.

World Kidney Day at Dayasparsha Hospital, Tumkur.

Theme: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and Aging

Dayabhavan Capacity Building wing arranged the celebra�on of World Kidney Day at Dyasparsa Hospital on 13 March 2014. Fr Jinesh K Varkey presided over the func�on and inaugurated by Dr. Sanath Kumar, District AIDS and Tuberculosis Control Officer, Tumkur. Mr. N.M. Achenkunju, Mr. Dayananad, Mr. N.C. John , Mr. Ramesh V.G. gave leadership and Dr Raja Kumar delivered a lecture on “How to keep kidneys healthy”. The programme helped so much the awareness campaign in Tumkur Dstrict. Free medical test for Kidney ailments were done along with the celebra�ons.

CKD Camp at St. Mary's Orthodox Church, Jalahalli, Bangalore�A successful camp was organized at St. Mary's Orhodox

thChurch, Jalahalli on 30 March 2014. Lecture on Kidney health and symptoms of kidney diseases and free medical test for a few was the highlight of the programme. The co‐opera�on and support of the Parishners are gratefully acknowledged.

Awareness on Blood DonationCampaign and collection of blood in association with MTCF (Mother Theresa Children’s Foundation)

The necess i ty for B lood Dona�on Awareness programmes are conducted throughout Karnataka, with the par�cipa�on, organiza�on and sponsorship by Colleges, Business establishments and Non‐Governmental Organiza�ons (NGOs) with lead role by Mother Teresa Founda�on. Around 25,000 people of Tumkur District were added to the well‐informed group for blood dona�on. The collected blood was entrusted to Tumkur Blood Banks for use of the poor and underprivileged pa�ents including Dayabhavan Medical Mission Hospital & Dayasparsha Hospital.

World Blood Donors' Day (June 2014)Dayabhavan and MTCF joined hands for Blood Donation Campaign at Tumkur with Rally, Public meeting and Collection of bloodThe rally was flagged off at DHO Office by Dr Channa Malliah (District Health Officer, Tumkur), with more than 2000 volunteers proceeded through the heart of the city and assembled at Govt. Junior College field where the Public mee�ng was held. Mr. Y. H. Huchiah (President, Zilla Panchayat) presided over and Mr. Govinda Raju (CEO, Zilla Panchayat) inaugurated the mee�ng a�er the blessing of Fr. Jinesh Varkey. The presence of Mr. S. P. Muddahanume Gowda (honorable Member of Parliament) and Mr. Rafeeq Ahemed (honorable MLA) was quite encouraging. Dr. Sajan George (President MTCF) welcomed the gathering and Dr. Sanath Kumar (DTO & DAPCU) gave the introduc�on for the progamme. Dr Venkatesh (RCH Officer), Dr. Shrikant (THO, Tumkur), Mr. Belli Lokesh (JDS District President), Mr. Venkatesh (President, Karnataka Bhovi Rakshka Vedike), Mr. Narayana Swamy (Commando Inspector in An�‐Naxal Force) were also present for the public mee�ng. The mee�ng concluded with vote of thanks by Mr. V.G. Ramesh. Along with the celebra�ons, 266 units of blood were collected.

World TB Day Celebration th 25 March 2014

Celebration of Ten Years Service of Dayabhavan & Inauguration of Mar Osthathios NilayaThe Tenth Anniversary celebra�on of Dayabhavan and the Inaugura�on of Mar Osthahios Nilaya was held at Dayabhavan Centre, Kunigal. Mr P.J. Kurien, Hon Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, inaugurated the func�on which was blessed by H.G. Dr Yuhanon Mar Chrisostomos, H.G. Yuhanon Mar Thevodoros, H.G. Abraham Mar Seraphim and Very Rev K.I. Philip Ramban. Shri Siddarama Chaithanya Mahaswamikal, Shri S.P. Mudhahanume and Vice Admiral P.J. Jacob gave the messages. A large number of people a�ended the func�on. Rev Fr John Mathew (Professor, Orthodox Theological Seminary, Ko�ayam) delivered Mar Osthathios Memorial Lecture, which gave added inputs on His Grace's vision and mission.

There were more than 150 par�cipants for the programme.The rally began by 10.30 AM from Sapthagiri Hospital Compound toGovernment General Hospital Compound, which was made colorful by a Bike Rally following the procession. By 11.30 AM a public mee�ng was arranged at the General Hospital Auditorium. The func�on was inaugurated by Sri Siddarama Chaithanya Maha Swamikalu, Poojya Jagath Guru, Harishankara Ma�a in the presence of Fr. Jinesh K. varkey & other honoured guests from the Taluk Health Department. The main Issues addressed were:

It is a fact that a large majority cannot afford be�er healthcare

due to poverty and li�le awareness, so that they succumb to the

illnesses. This pathe�c situa�on was more prevalent in and

around Tumkur, hence the DMMH & Elisa Sajan Hospice was

established aiming for a fully‐equipped Centre with X‐ray, High‐

tech Labs, Scanning & Dialysis units, advanced OT, ICU, NICU, 24‐

hour Casualty department, Ambulance service, all within

affordable rates for the common man.

The Dayabhavan Medical Mission Hospital & Elisa Sajan Hospice was inaugurated on December 22, 2014 by Honorable minister Shri T.B. Jayachandra.

Cancer Pain and Paliative Care Centre NAMS Snehasadan, Jalahalli, Bangalore, is a home for des�tute

children and the Helpless Old‐Aged, established in 1994. A

Cancer Pain and Palia�ve Care Centre will be star�ng in this

premises shortly.

General Body MeetingGeneral Body mee�ng of St. Gregorios Dayabhavan was held on 28th Dec. 2013 at Snehadsadan and approved the budget for the year 2014‐15.

Mr. Sathyan Parakadavil was elected asthe Treasurer of Dayabhavan for the next financial year, in the mee�ng.

Inauguration of The Community Care Centre at Dayabhvan is shi�ed to Tumkur for be�er accessibility. The Centre, now named as DAYASPARSHA, was dedicated and inaugurated on 6 February 2014. Started func�oning with a 20‐bedded Hospital and is giving free medical care to HIV/AIDS and TB pa�ents using latest medical instruments.
