the grass root level and new value along

with the local people at the district level.

An innovative initiative and plan

encouraged by Mr. Sam Pitrodaof the National Innovation Council.

DREAM:IN has adopted Tumkur as a

district to prototype and demonstrate

inside out/bottom up development.

Tumkur district is an administrative,

progressive district in the state of

Karnataka in south India. The district

headquarters are located at Tumkur.The district occupies an area of 10,598

km² and had a population of 2,678,890,of which 19.62% were urban and Average

Literacy 75.14% as of 2011. It is a one and

a half hour drive from Bangalore.

There is a lot of agricultural activity in all the 10 taluks of the district.Apart from agriculture, Tumkur ishome to hordes of small and middlescale hardware industries. Tumkuris also an educational hub and cultural

center.

Thirteen students of NICC who were part of

the DREAM:IN Global Academic Program

undertook the DREAM:IN Journey across

the Tumkur district from May 18 to 27,

covering a taluk a day to capture close to

800 dreams from across the district.

Dreams harvested from Tumkur were viewed,

absorbed, discussed and scenarios were

created for the future of Tumkur by seven

multi-disciplinary teams at a Dreamscaping

session on the 1st and 2nd June 2013.

DREAM:IN Tumkur was formally introduced

and the plans developed at the DreamScaping

session were shared at a conclave held at SIT,

Tumkur on 5th June 2013.

The fruits of this Tree of New Life consistof the Agripreneur being located and

projected as the modern entrepreneur,

essential in making Tumkur a Dream

District. Tumkur has to be re-created asan Agri-Edu Hub with a new school for

rural action and management directly

linked to farmers, their Dreams and helping

them move forward from their present role

as raw materials producers in to that of

value-adding agri-processors.

In September 2012, DREAM:IN Tumkurset up it’s project office in Tumkur to work at the grass root level and map the

potential and possibilities.

The team mapped more than 100 villages

across Gubbi, Tumkur & Sira taluks to

identify potential Agripreneurs

The objectives of DREAM:IN Tumkur,

inspired by the aspirations of its residents

are to rekindle the socio-economic value

in being a farmer, upgrade the

agriculturists status to Agripreneurs to

create a value added food processing/

distribution system.

DREAM:IN has created a brand, is

licensing it out to producer groups and

facilitating direct movement from Farm to

Plate, from mind to markets.

DREAM:IN Tumkur has createda society to enable ease ofmarketing and to help control the

distribution system for the Agripreneurs.

Three groups of farmers (9 farmers) are

already members of this society and

DREAM:IN Tumkur has set up the entire

ecosystem for the society including

connecting them to retailers, research/

training/certification institutions, process/

packaging industries and much more.
